Borderline, a synth pop classic, was written and produced by one person. Its lyrical content, her poignant delivery, and the beautiful synthesizers are unforgettable. Current #1 hit One Dance has eleven writers and four producers and is basically an advertisement for Hennessy. I wish people still made popular songs like Borderline. I also like that it is a cute song about literally having a mental breakdown.

So cute. Madonna looks like a nervous schoolgirl in front of her principal & Obama just grounded her for misbehaving.

The racial tension in the US (and elsewhere) comes from a very long cultural history of opression and inequality. The world is not equal to this day. That true equality may never come, and it will definitely not come if we don't start having more empathy towards one another and seeing how differently we all experience the world.

Growing up with that kind of baggage is extremely difficult, especially in a world that is still very much racist (and homophobic and mysoginistic etc) even if laws say otherwise. When you consider all the factors at play you can understand why sometimes there are overreactions from minorities or misunderstandings (as well as legitimate complaints), and we need to at least discuss things without reducing them to buzz words.

When Madonna used the disnigga hashtag, we knew she wasn't being racist, but I can understand why her using it would be genuinely offensive (hurtful) to others and she understood that too. I also understand why some people would not be able to see past context. This is emotionally charged to a degree that people from the outside may not understand, but we have to try. Dismissing the bigger picture is hostile.

It seems to me that people from both sides arent too willing to discuss these issues without that hostility. Its sad.

I'd like to add that I saw black people bashing her, white people bashing her, black people who thought the tribute was nice and black people who thought Stevie Wonder sounded bad. So generalizations are never a good idea.

If she had included his musicians people wouldnt have been as harsh imho. I saw a lot of skeptical people on Twitter who were saying "maybe she'll include The Revolution, etc", it would've appeased things. I 100% understand if people didn't like it, I also ovbiously think hating on a tribute from a friend to a friend is extremely disrespectful.

I really like you but i have to disagree with this topic.
American black people has serious racist issue. This is the post I wrote after Academy awards.

And this BBMA Balck Male host did it again. He said something like "unlike Oscar We actually have Black artist here."
Are you kidding with me? Where is Latinos? Where is Asians? Where is other races?
It looks like there's only two races exist in America at Black people's eyes!
OK i get that they have slave history at past but my problem is sometimes it feels like they use it  as their free pass weapon in nowadays.

This Disgusting BET ads...I just wow.. seriously?

For me American Black people is Very Good example for "Racist is not only for white people. Black people can be the worst kind of Racist too."

I disagree that she invited this criticism.  She was paying tribute to a friend, something she didn't have to do.  Don't hang your shit on her.  If you have personal issues, go post that shit on a Prince forum.

We're Madonna fans first here and most of us don't want to read that shit because we care about her performance, not whether Prince would have approved or not.

It would be great to see a Confessions Tour CD with all the live tracks.
I have a dvdrip of it, but I would like to have a very good quality material, like the one for MDNA Tour, which sounds great.

Still, Kylie gives the fans what they want. Madonna barely does it, unfortunately. And we're just talking about commercial releases, no doubt Madonna is greater than anyone in the showbusiness

No T, no shade, but Kylie can do that because she doesn't need to spend time sifting through her live performances tweaking the vocals (or in the S&ST completely redoing them).

If you would have had the chance to rework the track list of "The Immaculate Collection", which track would you have replaced with another song from Madonna's single discography?

You can choose ONE song from TIC (track 1 to 17) and replace it with any Madonna single released up to that point (1990), that isn't included on the original track list.

I'm really looking forward to see which ones you will pick!

I just noticed that the "Who's That Girl Tour" happened much earlier (summer 1987) than the "You Can Dance" album was released (November 1987).I had always assumed, that Madonna performed the Shep Pettibone Remix of "Into The Groove" on this tour. This may still be the case, as the mix surely had been produced much earlier. But it means, that the audience basicly didn't know the remix by then and to them this surely was a completly new performance of the song.

"those are not good songs", to you. There's no comparision between Confessions and the music that came after from her. Confessions is well composed musically, it's not basic dance music like Celebration, Revolver, Girl Gone Wild, etc, etc, It's sad that you can't hear that. You don't even have to like the album to have some more objectivity. "No one cared about it" yet it's her last big success, and I do think S&S owes much of it's success to this album. Most probably I wouldn't be here without this album, and this forum wouldn't exist.

She has recorded many well composed songs since Confessions, though. I already mentioned some, but I'd add Devil Wouldn't Recognize You, Voices, Falling Free, Rebel Heart, Devil Pray, Borrowed Time, and more.

Honestly, the most important thing about Madonna is her music, at least I think so. You don't like her music, and that's ok, but there's more to life than Madonna if you don't like her music then surely some other artist is doing music you can actually like, perhaps you haven't discovered it yet. Madonna is not even my favourite artist, but I love her albums, her directorial efforts, her live shows, and I like her as a person a lot. You can't honestly think Madonna the artist is dead, maybe make a bit more effort to see the good in her work, otherwise move on because it will save you a lot of time and frustration. It's been over 10 years for you since her last good work? That's a long time.

I do agree with one thing though, that the public's dislike towards her at the moment is largely not because of ageism, but you need to cut the hyperbole and tone down the hate because it makes you look obsessed with a celebrity whose work you don't even like. Which is just.... ekk.

Well, I'm just going to express my opinion and that's it, I'm not willing to fight, I don't want to offend anyone. I think we are mature enough to respect everyone's opinion.

At first when the whole thing was announced, I thought I wasn't going to like the album; I read some bad reactions to the leaks (which I didn't listened to, and fact, haven't listened) and some bad reactions to the record when it finally came, so I kinda believed them.

I finally listened to the record when I got it for christmas last year, and I tried to not have any expectation just in case the album was really that awful. I really really enjoyed it. There are certains songs that I hated, the case of Illuminati and Iconic (the song is actually good, but the drops ruins it for me, big time), but the rest of the record is really good.

I don't get the hate this whole era got, I think it was waaaaaaay better than Hard Candy and MDNA.

What is a true Madonna album for you?
Maybe a real pop album like True Blue?
Or an album with deep lyrics like Like A Prayer?
Or a risky album like Erotica or American Life?

    Nevermind...
Rebel Heart has many songs with the best lyrics in much time, and a lot of catchy pop melodies.
Most of the best songs in Rebel Heart haven't and won't be singles.
But an album with good songs and no singles, is not a bad album.

What is what you don't like from Rebel Heart, the album?
Is it the "sound" actually important?
Do you think that she could sell any copy with exactly the same sound as True Blue album nowadays?
You've said her voice doesn't sound the same since American Life.
    How old are you?
I'm old enough to know that people's voices change with age, and mine does.
Do you think that she could sing with the same voice as Like A Prayer nowadays?

    Nevermind...
You didn't like Rebel Heart album (I'm not in the mood to discuss about complete era).
    Good for you!
But seriously, from the respect... Are you trying to convince people of something?
Or are you trying to convince yourself of something?

I'm also not in the mood to discuss about Confessions era.
    So, here my intervention ends.

    Good night, my dear fans!
    And good night, @@patriziagucci
