I went to a Madonna tribute show last night in a large theatre. When I tell you the audience was 5% cigarettes and 95% ex teenage moms in their 40’s and 50’s you need to believe me.
I’ve never seen such a reaction to Papa Don’t Preach. It was far and away the biggest reaction of the night.
anything post 1990 was pretty much a flop. Frozen Ray Of Light Hung Up Music were just about salvageable but Don’t Tell Me was a flop. I spoke to the woman doing it afterwards and she said they’d tried loads of new stuff in the set over the past years including Ghosttown, Medellin, Girl Gone Wild, Celebration etc but they were all met with stony faces and the theatres went dead.

We are not the general public so as much as we moan about the sleeve design it’s 100% on brand for anyone who wants anything historically Madonna related because 83-1990 is IT for 90%+ of anyone who is likely to buy a physical product of Madonna.
This is for the fans who only kept half an eye open for Madge after the birth of their first child tbh.

There was a 22 yr old with us who only really knew confessions and a couple of the obvious ones and that’s only because he had become invested around Hung Up. It made me realise how important confession was for her career and extending the interest to another generation because with the American Life flopage she really could have been just an 80’s 90’s act.
It was quite the wake up call I tell thee.
