  1. It's become known as one of her best albums over time. I still love it to this day. I kinda wish she'd made another album with Shep.
  2. Yeah, this performance is definitely one of the highlights of S&S! The weird video intro? Yeah, I still don't get that.
  3. Not watched it for years. My DVD copy started to corrupt during 'Music' and 'Holiday' so probably doesn't work anymore. Trying to locate a digital file of it I can keep on a hard rive rather than a dvd copy. The DVD copy I had was good though, had a great animated menu and a few news footage extras on it.
  4. Any chance you can re-post this image? I'd love to see it!!!
  5. Such a strange concept. I noticed it during Prince's Purple Rain tour that people had seats behind the stage. I wonder how much they got to see?
  6. Interesting post, thanks for sharing. My main annoyance with the MNDA release was the too-quick editing. It ruined it for me.
  7. Drowned World at Earls Court, London: Her wig slipped back during 'Mer Girl' causing her to rip it off like she does in the HBO show. Re-Invention at Wembley Arena, London: She said during one song, I forget which, maybe before she sang the reprise of 'American Life' after PDP? ... "You're making me feel very uncomfortable up here!" when the audience weren't responding to her speech. I seem to recall her exclaiming 'Fuck!' when she was thrown into the electric chair at the end of 'DAD' for some reason, like she was upset about something. MDNA in Birmingham: The motel for 'Gang Bang' didn't appear so she had to perform the song freestyle. The screens didn't work during JML and opened late for 'Vogue'. I think she was also late for the 'Addicted' entrance too. MDNA in Edinburgh: No 'Like A Virgin' Rebel Heart in Manchester: She told the crowd off for booing her lateness, cut the medley then cut the show short after 'Material Girl.'
  8. Sticky & Sweet was a return of Madonna the dancer, the show had some of her best choreography since TGS Imo. Yes, the costumes and sets weren't great but I have to say, when I saw the show in Cardiff in 2008 and Manchester 2009, I found them to be two of the most fun shows I'd ever seen as it was a show that was bright and fun, rather than dark and theatrical.
  9. I prefer the sparse but 'real' applause of the Fukuoka show rather than the slightly annoying fake looped applause/chanting from Sydney.
  10. Blond Ambition remains the high point of her career for me. I became a 'proper' fan in 1991 when I bought The Immaculate Collection on cassette after seeing it had 'Vogue' on it, which was one of my favourite songs. I'd been aware of her since seeing the 1986 Christmas Top Of The Pops episode where they showed clips of 'Papa Don't Preach' and 'True Blue' and was aware of most of her singles through to 'Vogue,' but wasn't a 'fan' so to speak. That all changed after seeing In Bed With Madonna and Blond Ambition in Barcelona. My life changed after seeing these and I became obsessed with that tour. I'd never experienced anything like it before. The costumes, the choreography, the dancers, the sets, the ponytail, the headset... the music! Everything about it was inspiring to me. I remember watching Ciao Italia roughly the same time as seeing BA and was so disappointed. Not that WTG is a bad show, it's great. But Blond Ambition was A+. Looking at it now, obviously live shows have changed and grown and technology is everything nowadays. But watching BA is like seeing the birth of these big extravaganzas. Both Prince and Bowie had done pretty spectacular and theatrical shows in '87/'88 but it's as if BA was the more fine tuned version of this type of concert. I haven't watched a full BA show in a while now but it will always remain the pinnacle of Madonna's career for me. Not to say her work after BA isn't equally, if not more creative or interesting (MDNA had moments that reminded me of BA, the opening, 'Vogue'), it's just BA sums up M perfectly in 1 hour and 40 minutes.
  11. I love how this part of 'Deeper and Deeper' developed along the tour. Even between the Sydney and Fukuoka dates. This section really shows her vocals are amazing.
  12. I was expecting more of a water theme when Drowned World was announced... would have been an interesting concept.
  13. I agree, her hair and make up for the HBO show was awful. When I saw her in London she had it straight and wore the red kilt. Much stronger look. I was at the show where her wig slipped off during 'Mer Girl'.
  14. For me, the Barcelona show is my favourite, even with the mistakes and big hair! Japan gets special mention for the ponytail but she still seems a bit stiff when it comes to the choreography, in the Barcelona and Nice shows she seems so much more loose and her dancing is on point. Interesting to me how much her voice changes from the Japan/US leg to Europe where she developed her 'Rescue Me' growl.
  15. I remember when I first became a big fan of M and my auntie made me a copy of this show from the Sky Movies channel broadcast in the uk. I watched it over and over and over... Still my favourite tour.
  16. I have mixed feelings about the tour. On the one hand, I liked seeing her be more relaxed and loses on stage with mixing up the set list nightly and not rushing through the show which I always felt like she did on previous tours. I have no problem with the setlist, I love the Rebel Heart album and still listen to it regularly, although I feel she needs to get some new musicians who can actually play 'live' music. My main problem was I saw the show in Manchester and was bitterly disappointed that the show was cut short and the general atmosphere was poor. I'll never forget how I felt when she finished 'Material Girl' and the house lights came on. I was crushed. Unfortunately I had a bad experience at that show and it has marred my view on the tour. Had I seen the show in Birmingham or London I may have a different feeling towards the tour but unfortunately, every time I watch or listen to the show I'm taken back to the Manchester show. Hopefully in time I'll be able to just enjoy the show for what it is.
  17. I have always loved this photo, ever since I bought The Immaculate Collection on cassette in the Summer of 1991. I have a large poster of it framed on my wall. The whole 'San Pedro' shoot is amazing.
  18. Madonna fan since late 1989 when I bought 'Dear Jessie' on 7".

Cool. I was barely a year old when she released 'Everybody' but was aware of her music growing up. Everything changed when I heard 'Vogue.'
