jtrover got a reaction from kesiak in Will Madonna Ever Have A Hit Single Again?
Anyone who says it isn't exclusively ageism I feel isn't looking at the reality of the way the world (and the business) really is.
The last "new" song I heard radio playing regularly by Madonna was in 2002 with 'Die Another Day'. Madonna was 44 years old then. I have never since then heard a new Madonna song played on the radio here where I live.
The entire music business is so drastically different in every way from when Madonna would release an album or a single in the 80's. True Blue I believe is globally her best selling studio album. Look at the promotion she did for that album... not too much. By the time the WTG tour started, the singles from the album had already been released, and it had been a year roughly since the album was released.  Regardless, you could take the best Madonna song ever (as if it were new and previously unreleased) and release it now and it still would not become a hit. That's just the way it is unfortunately. Now IF radio would actually play the songs, maybe that would change, but it never will. They are catering to the kids and young adults since they are the ones that mostly purchase music.
Mind you, I wish all of this was different. But I just accepted 15 years ago that Madonna's days of new songs being played on hit radio was over (at least here in North America).  She had an exceptional run. She had 20 full years of radio support which any artist would be lucky and grateful to have.
Should she have still had her current music at the time played on the radio? Without question or hesitation YES! But, there's nothing obviously anyone could've done. Not even she could change that. Madonna's music the past 15 years have obviously been good enough for radio. It's a heck of a lot better than the majority of music that has been played and charted well. But unlike other artists, Madonna is not young. I do believe it is absolutely due to her age. It is the ONLY reason. And if anybody doesn't believe me, I'll just leave you with 1 word... Ghosttown.

I saw Natalie Merchant (ex 10,000 Maniacs) last year at a theatre, it was magical. At one point she collected about ten cellphones from the front rows, she promised to give them back at the end of the show

This is a reconstruction of the demo version of Into the Groove played during the end credits of Desperately Seeking Susan, created from the multitrack. I spent a lot of time making it match as closely as possible to create an HQ version of the demo. It uses the original bass and drum sounds and none of the instruments which were changed or added to the released mix or the Shep Pettibone mix.
4/8/22 UPDATE: This is a newly revised 2022 version which is closer to the sound of the demo version. This is my 3rd version and I think the final and best.  I left the previous version up in case you still want it.
I hope you like it. Enjoy!

Thanks for the topic  I just finished listening to the tracks and I was looking for a place to share and confront the early impressions.
Orbit certainly took his touch by creating complex sound patterns and a much more electronic vibe to the whole thing. Some songs became more energetic (Sky fits Heaven, Skin, Nothing really matters), instead of the subtle, dreamy and much darker mood these tracks had in the early stages. Her voice consequently had to be adapted to the new sound, with a "louder" and firmer attitude, instead of the whispered, gloomy tone of many of the demos vocals. There certainly is an undeniable change between the pre and post Orbit involvement, at the same time, I agree, the soul of the record was already there.
Personally, I like the new dimension these demos are giving to the tracks a lot. It's like discovering the other side of the whole project (the demos often have this straight-to-the-core kind of feeling to me, it's the same for the Erotica tracks). One of the things I miss the most in all her post-Music works is just her expressive whispered voice wich such a delicate, sensual and intriguing vibe was able to lend to songs like Inside of me, Secret garden, Bedtime Story, Swim, I want you. I'm madly happy at the moment actually.
The tracks I like the most are Noting really matters, whose arrangement underlines the beauty of the armony and the solidity of the whole composition more than the final production imo, Flirtation Dance, sensual and haunting, Be careful, wich I'd say is better than the released version, Has To Be 1, wich is so dark and intense, inspiring complete different emotions, and You'll Stay, intense and very sophisticated. The two Babyface tracks are both good. I'm more interested in I'll be gone, but just for a matter of personal genre preference, Never love a stranger is a gorgeous track in her style.
So, after 4 years without a single new note, all at once we're sharing this, just a month or so before the announcement of the beginning of the new era! And I have to say, every time it's amazing rediscovering the sound of her voice! Thanks again for the sharing, whoever you are

    Sad, mysterious, haunting and beautiful.

A close second to me is Something to Remember. The lyrics are so sentimental, sad and bittersweet. Plus, that piano solo at the end of it just kills me.

Showing off? I have made a remake of the 7" Remix Edit as I've seen it was requested by many people in here since certain mixes were made and posted here by another user, and then I worked on a 'Full Version' which people asked me to post as well.
Whether I have made something enjoyable to people, well.. that is subjective. But people should know I don't care at all about showing off anything. I am an audio nerd and have done my take on the song, nothing more and nothing less.
How about focusing on the actual mix instead of thinking of what material I have used or not used? I'm not Professional and I accept constructive critics.
If my point was to show off, I would have done it a long time ago with many other things, posting an half-assed mix or clip, just like some users have done before - but that is not ME.

I would LOVE (obviously) the full, complete Paris performance. It was filmed so beautifully on 35mm. I'm sure it would be almost every fan's dream to have a copy of this somehow, shape or form.
I saw her June 1, 1990 in Michigan the night we all sang Happy Birthday to here Dad after Holiday.
I honestly and truly prefer the ponytail though I must say. I find it truly suited all the costumes better.
The Yokohama show to me is too dark. I hardly see any lights and it seems like parts of the backdrop are missing at times. The Nice show is better in all aspects but I actually find the Barcelona show to be the best all of 3 personally. They all pale in comparison to the Truth or Dare (Bercy) footage however. Ponytail or not, I want it! Although, it's 99.9% of a chance we'll never see the rest of it.

I got Desperately Seeking Susan. Not sure how I feel about it. Although it is my favourite Madonna movie, I'd like to think I have it more together than Susan.

Actually, the more I think about it, I basically am Susan.

This is just unbelievably crazy good. I mean, seriously.

What a terrific vibe he has infiltrated into the song! I like it probably even more than the album version. I have always felt Dubtronic made some of the best Madonna mixes (fanmade or hired). Each one is consistently great.
What I love so much about his remixes is that it never strays away from the actual feeling of the original, but breathes no life and energy into the song. To me, it is the actual real purpose of a remix - not to turn it into something so distant from original.

I just watched the video 4 times. Why not again?!

jtrover reacted to null in Opinion: Ghosttown was wasted potential
Ghosttown has to be one of the greatest ballads in Madonna's recent discography (from 2008-present). It's really a shame she didn't bother promoting it as much as she should have. Honestly it was wasted potential to be something greater than it actually was. Everything about the song was perfect and is,in my opinion, probably my top ten favorite Madonna songs of all time.
