I agree. Although I would say it does still carry the Madonna essence for me. But it's kind of basic vs. her more artistic work.

I mean these are the same people that said Britney Spears’s Blackout is the most influential album of the 21st century. They like to be hyperbolic.

Ugh Into The Groove is so overrated honestly. It’s great but idk it doesn’t carry the Madonna essence for me.
I suppose it would be different if I had lived through the time where it was released, so obviously my perception of it is a bit warped.
But in my opinion she has so many more songs that embody her personality, her vibe, her music way more than ITG.

No chance. But I wish. Single idea was burried along with Motown stupidity. If I Want You remixes exist, they might add them to a landmark reissue... but which one? Bedtime Stories is not considered by Warner a landmark album (though it saved Madonna's career after Erotica)

Another performance I think shows she can sing is Little Star on Oprah. Once again, she’s not technically perfect but there’s a passion there that a non singer could not carry. X-static process on mtv is another one.
She’s a good singer imo. Not the best but good. Madonna is all about her personality though, not technical ability.

I always joke with my friend about Celine’s behind the music episode where she romanticizes it. She talks about how one night he gave her a “different kiss that was so so tender” and I’m just like wow you weee a 13 year old and this almost 50 year old fat guy was tucking you in.  Like what?!

Very early on she had Crazy for You and Papa Don't Preach to prove she was a great studio singer. No wonder she was nominated at the Grammys for both.

She got to be a technically better singer in the 90s (You'll See, Ray of Light, Evita OST...) but I still think Papa Don't Preach is one of her finnest (and she had a cold!).

(Don't tell me a 10 minute Marlene Dietrich parody of Like A Virgin along with a performance of I'm Going Bananas is the absolute best thing she could have done for that tour)
I get her intention, I understand the idea and the concept behind it. Do I think those two performances were the absolute highlight of that show? No and I think it's totally fair to criticize her decision. Art is supposed to create a discussion.
The Girlie Show isn't anywhere near my top choices and it's never gonna be unless I could go back in time, slap (or fuck whatever he prefers) the shit out of Christopher and tell him to convince his sister to change things up and include more songs on that darn tour!
