I remember someone was interviewing her about consideration of adding This Used to Be My Playground, Rescue Me and other song to setlist of certain tour, and she described Rescue Me as "dope song". So that's not the reason why it was left off.

Yeah but she said that almost 30 years after it's release. That doesn't necessarily indicate how she felt back in the day. She also said she'd puke if she ever had to sing "Material Girl" again and that she'd never do a greatest hits tour.

Fab but gutted that Into The Groove wont have its own release with the video edit and movie version.

Feel like it's a bit of a coup that we got the radio edit though. That's a real win. Nice little EP actually but the Burning Up alternate would have been perfection.

You can rip it from the Celebration DVD. DVD audio is higher quality than CD audio anyway (48 kHz vs. 44.1 kHz), if that makes you feel any better.

  3. I'm not against of remastering old tracks as long as they're close to the original masters (and improved). The use of multi-tracks is usually done to create multi-channel audio like making a dolby atmos mix and rarely for stereo mixes. Normally they use an unmastered mix but in Madonna's case, for some reason, they always choose the mastered tracks. And this is quite problematic because the sound is essentially being distorted.

What you’re describing is a remix not a remaster. Mastering is done after the mixing is complete.

Into The Groove has actually had a lot of stuff on its various formats

    • "Into the Groove" (Single Version) – 4:43
    • "Shoo-Bee-Doo" (LP Version) – 5:16
    • "Physical Attraction" (Single Edit) – 3:55
    • "Who's That Girl" (Extended Version) – 6:29
    • "Causing a Commotion" (Silver Screen Mix) – 6:39
    • "Into the Groove" (Extended Remix) – 8:31
    • "Into the Groove" (Remix Dub) – 6:22
    • "Everybody" (Extended Remix) – 7:06
    • "Everybody" (LP Version) – 4:52
    • Into The Hollywood Groove

I so hope it gets its only release and isn't lumped in with Angel as this artwork is just too Iconic.

I feel like they HAVE to release "Into The Groove" on it's own. It's such a classic, not just a Madonna classic. And it was released as it's own single in several countries, so it's not like they'd really be revising history or anything.

Sadly, I think they will be cause every pre-1989 re-issue has been remastered. 🥲

Not quite. Strangely, "La Isla Bonita" is the only one of the pre-1989 singles that wasn't remastered. Neither was You Can Dance Single Edits, but that one's classified as an album. Plenty of other un-remastered albums out there.

@clkelley39which mix are you talking about and what do you mean about her vocals?  The Orbit Alternative mix shared by @Would You Like To Trysounds great. I can increase the volume a bit, but it sounds just fine.

@PaperFacesI'm referring to the Guerilla Groove Mix and the Orbit Alternative Mix, but mostly the Guerilla Groove Mix. There's so much distortion, particularly on the vocals. But yes, that FLAC @Would You Like To Try posted of the Orbit Alternative Mix does sound much better.

I'll DM you about sending you the files.

Yes it's true! Orbit Alternative is very loud and Guerilla beach I think are effects

I'm trying to research ways to decrease that "crunchiness" in her vocals, but I'm afraid I don't have the right vocabulary to properly look it up online. I do know that Noise Reduction in Audacity certainly doesn't make it any better.

Thank you.I thought from stems and echo works and perhaps additions with a DAW but It seems it can't be done like that.Orbit alternative's only change is the ending it seems and MAYBE the beat being stronger but I think it's mastering

Regarding these two vinyl-only remixes of "I'll Remember" - are they mastered VERY loudly on the vinyl or something? I just got a copy of the 12" US promo single and ripped them to my computer. There is SO MUCH distortion on Madonna's vocals. The place I bought the record form cleaned it well, I cleaned it well, I cleaned by turntable's stylus and it's still sounds so bad. I kind of hear it on a tip I downloaded from this forum too.

It's the mastering, right? It's not just me?

Somehow I lost track of which rare promo versions/ remixes or edits were previously unreleased or vinyl only releases that are now released digitally.

    Does anyone have a list?

I had the same question. I referred to http://stealmylyrics.com/madonnaremixology/ because it appears not to have been updated in awhile. As in, some things marked as vinyl-only there have now been added to streaming.

Strangely, though, you can't search for the word "vinyl" on that site because it's coded weirdly I guess.

None that I can see on Discogs... Do you have a link? The only different cover I could see was the single cassette which featured just one Madonna.

It looks like the correct cover is used on the streaming services (I checked Spotify and Qobuz). The incorrect cover, where she's looking in the other direction, seems to be limited to that Tweet.

  11. I was comparing the 2024 remaster of "Material Girl" to the 2022 remaster, and I'm starting to think the 2022 remaster from FEL actually is a different mix.

I think the main difference is that the drums sound wetter (more reverb) in the 2022 remaster, which is supposed a 7" version. The snare drum totally has more reverb on FEL and the hi-hat is quieter and less crispy-sounding. That wouldn't be a result of mastering, but of mixing. And I could totally see a record company in 1984 just slightly changing the mix of a song for the 7" version. Remember all the different "mixes" of Cher's "If I Could Turn Back Time"? Each one just had slightly different levels for each instrument, and therefore they classified them as different mixes. But you could BARELY hear the difference in each one, if at all.

Opinions? Wait, I actually don't want them.

  12. For that it's worth, the streaming services seemed to have re-organized Madonna's catalog CORRECTLY into albums and singles. Or at least, that's what I just noticed on Qobuz:

As in, no more listing all these maxi singles as albums. Don't know when that happened, but I just noticed it today. Looks like Spotify has it correct too, but I don't use Spotify so I'm not sure if it's always been like that or not.

    News you can use.

there is an interesting article about this topic.... but not sure how reliable it is?

    https://www.benvaughn.com/does-madonna-own-her-masters-a-breakdown-of-the-businesswomans-dealings/

I think this article was written by AI or something. A lot of it doesn't make sense. It says:

"Under this contract, Madonna was paid an advance of $5,000 and a royalty rate of 15 percent. This meant that for every album sold, Madonna would receive 15 cents.

So does that mean there is only $1 profit from every album sold? Or that's the assumption? I don't follow. Then it goes on to say:

"It was revealed that Rihana had purchased the rights to all of her albums. You can find the album Beyblade on both Parkwood Entertainment and Columbia Records. Because of the arrangement, the master recordings of some of Bey’s songs appear on her albums. Furthermore, the singer signed a global recording contract with Sony Music Entertainment, the company that owns Columbia Records, in January 2020."

Wait, now we're suddenly talking about Rihanna and/or Beyonce and some album called Beyblade? Then later:

"The album Becoming Blackened Recordings is the ultimate in independence, according to Metallica guitarist Lardrup Ulrich. The rapper’s manager, Kei Henderson, revealed that 21 Savage owns his master’s degree."

Becoming Blackened Recordings? Lardrup? Master's degree?

I love all the little references in the live versions and like expected Stuart does a great job, he really has fun and respect for M's catalogue. This is the only part I really don't get of the show, so they changed the key to accomodate Michael's key but in effect turning M's vocal into sounding like a bad karaoke singer. And as a result everyone notices how weird she sounds  personally I would have ditched MJ all together but at the very least maybe alter his voice to accomodat M's instead? Oh well, it's three minutes in a fantastic show and I'm sure there's other that think the tribute is the highlight

All the recordings I've heard so far are audience recordings, so the quality's not great. But, from what I can discern, the key changes when it switches from "Billie Jean" to "Like a Virgin". And on the album version, it's VERY clear that Madonna's vocals were pitched WAY up using some archaic 80's technique. She sounds like she's on helium and music journalists compared her to Minnie Mouse. (Just go listen to the stems we have. That's NOT what Madonna's voice really sounds like.)

So what I'm hypothesizing is that he vocal was pitched back down to how she actually sang the song, to get it closer to Michael's key.

Just a hypothesis, I'm not music expert. Just contributing to the conversation. If you disagree, don't come at me and turn this into a whole drama where you insult my mother and call in a bomb threat to my work.
