Some of that was reaching big time. Some of it was blatant and Madonna was pretty up front about it. Even at the time in the 80's/90's people thought she was obsessed with Marilyn and wanted to be her. She also was pretty up front about being influenced by old Hollywood.
Express Yourself - Metropolis. She herself said it in interviews. I think most people are annoyed when someone copies big chunks of someones work and either doesn't make it obvious or tries to pass it off as their own creativity.
Though to be honest I never care if people copy Madonna or if she copies them, everyone does it. Lady Gaga on the other hand, well................ I really don't want to cause unrest on the forums with my opinions on her, haha.

The Madonna photoshoot was done in late 99, before Britney's was released, they probably shot them at the same time.
The discoball is probably just a coincidence. I doubt she mined Britney's entrance from five years before. She probably barely remembered it, if she ever saw it. Britney's career was mostly dead in '05 thanks to Kevin Federline, among other things. If Madonna had the discoball entrance in Drowned World I might have agreed with you.
And honestly if she did copy, she did it far better
You could do things like this for a million artists, including Madonna. I am sure I could make a case for Madonna copying other people for everything she ever did

Thanks for sharing. I might go through some of it over the next few days. If I find anything Madonna related I will let everyone know.
Funnily enough I have seen heaps of vintage MTV, despite the fact they used to call it Madonna TV, it is actually hard to find anything of her

Yeah this has been the oddest thing to me too. Normally this is a time they all donate or reach out in any way to those struggling. It seems most celebs are using this as a publicity opportunity to talk about themselves and keep their brand going.
There are seriously people (healthcare mostly) who are still out there risking their lives and over run with sick people
Or many who have lost their jobs and just praying for some financial assistance. Yet very few people in the public eye are even talking about them.
I am terrified for my parents. They would not survive this virus if they got it and I am in a different part of the country.
This virus isn't an equaliser, it is going hard on certain groups of people.

Yes Madonna it has made you equal to my parents, both over 60, one just fought leukemia and the other with Diabetes. They are so equal to you right now. My mother was almost forced to continue home visits to children or lose her job until I stepped in and threatened to sue. So so so equal Madonna. Anyone forcing you to go out and work right now?
It has made the millions who have lost their jobs so equal. I'm betting you aren't too worried about your finances
It has made the health care workers still working in hospitals with those infected so equal. Pretty sure you won't have to go to a hospital with the unwashed masses will you?
You are every woman/man/child - You are like all of us. So equal, not priviledged at all. I'm betting you haven't had trouble finding food to eat, because I know I sure haven't had to ration food, I've been eating like a King
You Madonna have insight into all of it. Well done. You are exactly what people need right now.

Yes. Between 2002-2004 Caresse was working on these box sets, and tour DVDs. The 20th Anniv boxset wasn’t going to include all albums remastered in dvd audio (all worked on by Stuart Price). I think there was going to be companion discs with b-sides and unreleased material (which is where Your Honesty came from). There was also a remix cd included too, which is why various dj’s were commissioned to remix older tracks like Over and Over, Holiday, Erotica, etc... Plus DVDs with music videos and live performances.
Unclear if the tours were to be included too, but Caresse was working on getting all those on DVD, especially Blond Ambition.

Before this big project, we only got Ciao Italia and Live Down Under on DVD between 1998-2001. Virgin Tour and Blond Ambition we’re likely delayed to focus sales of GHv2 and DWT dvd.
The reason we didn’t get any of these is because:
    1) The low sales of American Life cancelled the boxset project. Caresse still tried to make up for this for the fans by putting out Remixed & Revisited, and the ICON fan club Nobody Knows Me book.
    2) In the Fall of 2004, Caresse was working on securing a deal with CBS to air the Re-Invention tour on tv. This fell through, and soon after Caresse was fired. With Caresse out of the picture, no one was working on these legacy projects, so they were shelved.
    3) In early 2005, all priority was to work on the new album (Confessions), and the documentary. The docu led to any physical release of RIT to be delayed again, and again, and again.

I am curious about this too if anyone has information on it.
Almost certain Carese Henry did a Q&A with ICON at some point and said she was trying to get past Madonna tours all on DVD in a box set. Not sure if this was the same project but I have a pretty strong memory of it. I also heard it was supposed to be similar to the Japanese singles box set that had been released there.

The value of going to a concert has changed. Back in the 80's, most people would not pay more than $15 - $20 for a ticket to any show except older legends like Frank Sinatra. Pretty sure there was no ticketing tier system. It was generally one price for all. Madonna type shows (more theatrical) were rare, the effects, costumes and sets were generally minimal in most concerts. So there was no desire to pay hundreds of dollars to see a band play with a cool light show.
The Virgin Tour was $15USD roughly or or $35USD today.
Who's that Girl? was around $20 - $23USD (depending if you saw her in a stadium or arena) which is roughly $50
Blond Ambition was a flat $30USD - $32USD (depending on location). With inflation that comes to roughly $60 now.
The tier system began around Girlie Show, with Gold Circle ticket prices. I remember in Australia the Gold Circle was around $200AUD which is $380AUD today or about $240 US.
Interestlingly there was a newspaper article from 1990 that said Madonna charged more in Japan (around $40 - $45USD) than the US because the market demand was high enough. This helped make up for a loss the show would experience throughout the US as a result of operating costs for the tour being higher than the revenue. She also charged slightly higher in Europe.
In 1993 I know Mexico, Australia and some others had 3 or 4 ticketing tiers and I think Europe and the US had maybe two. I think by 2001 with Drowned World the expensive front row ticket and tier system was in place everywhere.
It is worth noting that the cost to produce a Madonna show went up quite a bit compared to the 1980's.
