I wish it could have been at least a b-side on Oh Father with remixes by Shep Pettibone (most likely). An acetate of the track was made by Warner. I don't know if it would havebeen the 3rd or 4th single from the album but by october 1989 the Batman soundtrack was done commercially even with the release of the movie overseas, people had already buy the soundtrack the previous summer. Scandalous (a very good track), the Arms of Orion and The Future (brilliant and the Orbit remixes are even better) were flops in the charts. And maybe Prince was not very happy when Madonna turned down the part he offered her in Graffiti Bridge. In french Rolling Stone around 1990, Mondino said he was approached to shoot the video and the idea was to show skin like in the movie "Hiroshima, my love" when a couple makes love and we only see their naked bodies very close up (no legs, tits etc...). I keep telling you guys to read "Siren Song" by Seymour Stein because i read it during quaratine and it was captivating, Mo Ostin is an asshole. and Madonna put up with a lot shit backstage at Warner even when she was at the top.
this is what i like to read. little tidbits of things i had never known. i just assumed that her record company would want to only release the stronger tracks. by the albums release and singles that followed, the two were all ready buried in other projects. thanks for the information.

yes, i figured it may have had conflicts with the Batman soundtrack. like everyone posted, i dont think it was a strong song to be a single too. i dont hate it but i dont love it. thanks for the responses so far.

I know but I always thought that was because of an exclusive deal with pioneer to do laserdisc only to try and push sales of laserdiscs? So nothing to do with the doco if that’s true....
I suppose we have so many fan created rumours now that we don’t know really know what is true.
exactly. with BAT it got a release on Laser Disc and various shows were released in a few countries on VHS and eventually transferred to DVD. with RIT no one got anything when it comes to the full show. the broadcast of RIT was to happen but it just fell through for legal reasons. i still think she prefer her documentary be the focus. i know that doesnt make some of the fan base happy but it is what it is. and its not like we cant view it. the Lisbon show is easily accessible unofficially on the internet in pretty decent quality so i am happy we still are able to access it. i have it saved on various drives.

Madonna and Prince were at the top of their game in 89. why do you think they and the record company didnt push 'Love Song' to be a single? i would say its not single material but do you?

Into the Groove. i had heard her earlier hits but it was this song that hooked me.

I created a thread about this a few years ago:
Her association with gay culture started with Vogue, TOD, Sex.
In 1987 she was loved by everyone.
not exactly true. a lot of the female fan base, specifically the teeny boppers, moved on once True Blue was released. the gay male base was always there but it wasnt until the later 80s that base was more predominant. i would agree that Vogue and there on, we started seeing an explosion of her gay base. once she started aligning herself publicly with the Aids crisis and becoming more publicly associated with the gay culture, the male base started growing more. that was happening by 86. her best friend Martin died in the mid 80's and that is when she seemed more publicly supportive of the LGBT community and the Aids crisis.
she still has a strong female following. though a lot of the female base is favorable to the early stuff. and i do believe there is a decent amount straight males who love her even still. they are just less admitting of it and dont fall over everything she does.

a fun song. i love her look in the video and was so glad we got something outside the studio with the video.

Curious, I keep seeing people talk about, but don't remember her ever actually saying this. When did she say she wasn't happy with the filming?
I think a lot of people forget that there was a clause that prevented the concert DVD from being released before the docu. She mentioned this in her Attitude magazine interview during the Confessions album in 2005.
But even before that. The DVD had an on again and off again release schedule. At the end of the day, change in magagment, and the focus on planning a promo release schedule for what would be the Confessions album are the reasons the DVD never came to be. I also think Hamish Hamilton's lawsuit against M was another nail in the coffin for the DVD.
If you look over the history, everything pointed to a spring 2005 release for the DVD. Back in Dec 2004 & Jan 2005, Warner France, Warner Portugal, Warner Music Germany, Warner Music Mexico, and Warner Belgium all confirmed an April 2005 release. But by February, something happened and the DVD got postponed to the end of the year, as confirmed from Johann at ICON and a Feb 16th article from Madonna.com.
So there's definately a full finished cut out there, as shown from the BU and DAD vids.
you make a valid point. but then there is always someone around to prove us wrong. but like you, i agree with much of everything you posted. it is hard to comment without some Madonna fans jumping all over you for the most accurate information.
i do recall the "on and off" release of the DVD. I always just wrapped it up as the fact the Documentary was the primary reason. I guess we will never know. i also recall CBS originally was slated to broadcast this tour.
the "clause" you mention was regarding the time the documentary was to be released/broadcasted before the DVD of the concert. there seemed to be an intention to release the full concert, but the more i think it was just a diversion. the documentary was meant to be the focus. And if she was able to get a broadcast of the concert, more power to her.

It is funny that they decided to abandon that project even though they included some Lisbon footage in IMGTTYAS.
At the end the final product for the documentary includes both shows, Paris and Lisbon. I think it was more of a "we can do a documentary or release the full show, but not both".
think of it from the prospective of Madonna. if you were documenting your tour and had enough footage to make a film out of it, and include various performances (much like she did with Truth Or Dare), wouldnt you want the focus be on that documentary? after all, she had something to say with IMGTTYAS whether we liked it or not. i dont find it odd for her to include Lisbon footage since they were documenting the whole tour anyway. not only that, it seemed there were plans to broadcast the Lisbon Show, but it fell short with the network. also, we have heard Madonna wasnt happy with the filming of that show, but it didnt mean she didnt like portions of that show. maybe for a time, we were going to get both the documentary and concert in full. her management had kept promising the actual concert as well. but i can see Madonna wanting to push the documentary over a full concert being it was something different.

It's raw footage. Of a rough edit. Not complete.
This is from the final version:
while i love some of the visual effects, it gets annoying at times, especially with her last few tours. so i am glad we have raw footage of the full RIT. I watched the remaster/upscaled version the other night and it is simple and you dont get distracted and dizzy with all the effects. now a proper edit might allow Madonna to show more of her creative input like more focus on her dancers and some visuals, etc, but in the end i love the rawness of it. it reminds me of the older tours, which didn't have all the flashing and nauseating effects. the last tour i truly enjoy to watch that she released was Confessions Tour. it had many effects, but its still easy on the eyes and not as distracting. i felt like there was a healthy balance unlike MDNA and Rebel Heart Tour. Sticky and Sweet is easy on the eyes as well.

love reading your thoughts. i share a lot of your thoughts on the album. i wont say it is my favorite album from her, but i even get some enjoyment out of the songs I least like. the more i listen to the album, the more i like it. i will admit upon first listening i wasnt too impressed with the over used vocal effects. for some songs like Future, it works, but other times its not necessary. its like that one word you hear in Ghosttown where you hear the obvious autotune. I am like "why"? it sticks out like a sore thumb and its one of my favorite songs from her ever.
what is cool about Madonna is that she doesnt ever do the same album twice. she keeps moving on and evolving. sure she goes back to certain themes and genres, but it still is a step up from before. i know some will disagree but i try to look for what i enjoy from her than what i dont. thats how i am about life. too much shit brings us down as it is, so why look for it in an artist we enjoy?

i feel it was early stages and the direction changed when she got more backing. i am glad the original idea didnt happen. i very much love the current official iconic cover.

i dont see any postponing going on. i think there is a plan in place that has the broadcast/streaming to happen soon (probably this fall) and the DVD later, most likely at the end of the year.
i do like @RUADJAIidea that they might want to include what is going on right now within the film.

i will leave this open to world wide charts rather just U.S. So which #2 Madonna song did you think was cheated out of the #1? of course, we could say them all but try to focus on one that you think really deserved #1.
for me, i say it is Express Yourself. such an anthem that deserved #1.

Taylor released her tour on Netflix merely one month after it concluded - which is the right thing, because she's using the momentum that was still there at this point.
MX was filmed six months ago, so there are no excuses.
her concert was filmed October 6th and wasnt released until New Years Eve. even though it was a few months after the recording this was back in 2018 when we werent in a middle of a pandemic. just because you want it now doesnt mean there arent good reasons in why its not released yet. and goodness we have waited way much longer for her concert releases. calm down, it will be here soon enough.

love that she is walking the talk. now i await the flood of "where is her mask" posts? lol.

be cool if people streamed and purchased the single track. love to see it get a boost on the digital charts.

if Guy Oseary had his way, she would be touring her albums. i believe he mentioned he tried to talk Madonna into touring the Ray of Light album. she seems to be resistant to doing nostalgia. but i believe there will come a time she will be doing at least a Greatest Hits tour in the near future. i would be curious how she would treat the songs if she waits too long as her voice might not be as strong for some songs. imagine her trying to belt out Ray of Light at 80 years old. lol!

Why does it always take that long for her (team) to release shit? Release it while it's still hot, god dammit.
really hasnt been so long since the tour ended. 3 months. im not sure if any of her tours have been released that quickly. maybe Virgin tour?
i think it is less about Madonnas involvement but more about releasing schedules and doing it at an optimal time. i know many wished to have it while we were in lockdown, but that was unrealistic being the tour just ended. i dont expect a physical release until the final quarter of the year which seems to be the best time with people holiday shopping. i would think people are pinching pennies right now with many not working because if covid-19.
