kesiak got a reaction from PlayPause in Madonna: A Rebel Life - is it worth reading?
It's very good, I'd say the ultimate M biography so far. Especially first half of the book with Madonna's early years and beginnings. It's also the only biography of Madonna  that positions her career and its stages within sociocultural context of the times they occurred in.

The most offensive thing about this book is how badly it's written.

    How strange.
Any artist I enjoy as a fan, I always want to know their contributions to the actual song. Simply put, because in a lot of ways, I far more respect the artist who can contribute to composting and/or writing their own music than someone who just sings a song someone gives them. There are plenty of  artists who sing the phone book and I commend them for their singing ability, but when the artist actually writes and composes their own song, it's far more their baby and own though.  Then when they actually sing the song they wrote, they are able to convey and emote the way the song really needs to be expressed. It's just nice to know Madonna is usually behind the words she sings.  Certainly, I am a fan of artists who don't write their own lyrics or even compose their own music, but again, I feel like an artist who actually puts forth their own input when it comes to the composition or lyrics, is far more invested and creative to the the outcome and delivery of the song.

Exactly. That’s the absurdity of it. There’s something misogynistic about his view. He is attacking Madonna for doing what she does at her age yet he dresses up as a woman and performs at around the same age. So a 63 year old man can impersonate female performers but an actual woman at 65 shouldn’t be performing?

IMO not really, because they have collaborated before and we have seen them together several times, but this, this was necessary for us.

Honey, the digital singles and remastered videos went full stop when she was in hospital and we're getting less and less of them since she's on tour.
She did curate "Finally Enough Love".
    But whatever.

Greenlighting means she's presented with something and decides if it goes on or not.
Of course she's not putting together herself those singles and upscaling the videos - just checking everything's OK before going live and/or asking for changes.
She's never been a puppet and always cared about her work, why it should be different now.

I'd hardly call it "butchered" now, there's no audible glitches. It's just your expecting to hear a different transition. I quite like the video edit actually. Nobody complained about it when it was being played on MTV back in the day.

It sounds completely fine. The audio is mixed in time and there are no obvious edits. It's mixed well.

But it's not about the book quote - that's super vague and I agree, it can be used to create drama and sell copies. I didn't think of it much until I saw the recent interview (March 1 2024) in The New Yorker where Ru Paul says this:
"“In aging, there is a natural flow,” he opines. “And, when you’re against the flow, it doesn’t look right, it doesn’t feel right. The energy around the Madonna thing—it feels weird, right?,” Ru adds, referring to her “chasing arena tours and grills in your teeth.”
A comment which you seem to be conveniently ignoring in all of your responses.

That's disappointing and surprising. Diana Ross, one of his biggest idols, did an arena tour last year at the age of 78. Tina Turner, another huge idol of his, did her last arena tour at the age of 69. Not to mention the fact that Ru himself is only marginally younger than M, and still goes through the hassle of putting on tons of make up, corsets, wigs, high heels, etc, in the name of performance. The lack of self-awareness here is quite remarkable.

Let's showcase Madonna's greatest vocal moments.
Instead of focusing on people who claim she can't sing let's celebrate the amazing performances she has given. I'll start.

I don't think she had what it takes to become a huge star otherwise she would have. But also, none of the people Madonna gave songs to became huge stars anyway. Madonna only gave away her reject songs and saved the best for herself. So I don't expect it would have helped her. She already had the huge benefit of being seen with Madonna on MTV, in Truth or Dare etc, Probably the main reason she landed the Snap gig.

Perhaps Maverick wasn't jazz enough for Niki...  In all seriousness though, I get the impression Maverick predominantly signed artists who wrote their own material (Alanis, Michelle Branch, Meshell Ndegeocello, Cleopatra, Deftones, etc). Don't think Niki has done any songwriting, unless I'm mistaken. Her tracks with Snap! are bangers however.
