  1. Aye-aye-aye-aye...

This tour has been one anxiety after another.

I hope I get to see a full show next week, but my expectations are very low at this point. As a long-term fan, I feel very sad to say that. I must concede Madonna has become a sometimes excellent, but often unreliable performer. I'm sure it might be an incredible show, a career-best perhaps - if your date isn't cancelled, starting late, or heavily edited...

I don't want her to cancel, I have absolute sympathy for her injury and I understand why she wants to preserve the integrity of the show, but... the tickets were so expensive, and I mean SO expensive! Regardless of all the problems, it really should be the best show of her career at those prices.

Does anyone remember a time, long ago, when a Madonna concert was just a joyful experience?

I imagine the board of Directors at Live Nation watching back footage of the tour, similar to that scene in Evita:

Let's here it for the Rainbow  Madame X Tour
    It's been an incredible success
We weren't quite sure, we had a few doubts
    Would Evita Madonna win through?

    And the answer is:

    Yes

    And no

    And yes

    And no

    And yes

    And no...

We all know what happened to Eva Peron after that!

  2. We’ll hang on a sec...We don’t know for sure why she was late. Perhaps it’s due to her injury, or it could be for who knows how many other reasons. You can’t just blame her without knowing all the facts. There could be so many other factors involved.

I understand ultimately it’s her name on the ticket but she’s clearly trying to get through this tour as best she can. She could’ve cancelled the whole thing by now, but is that really what people would prefer?

  3. Perhaps Live Nation could cancel every consecutive night’s show? Obviously the injury isn’t going away, and will probably only get worse the more she performs, but at least a day’s rest in between shows would give her some time to heal, take the pressure off and let fans know where they stand. It’s all very disappointing but no one should blame her for trying her hardest. I’d bought 6 tickets to 3 different London dates. At this point I’m trying to see the silver-lining - think how flush I’ll be when all those refunds come through! Get well soon M. x

  4. I think Bruce Springsteen's On Broadway tour would be a good comparison in terms of the scale and intentions of this tour.

Springsteen amassed $113,058,952 form 236 shows in 2018, averaging $479,063 per show. Not to shabby!

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Springsteen_on_Broadway

At present, M is averaging $601,985 per show, but as already noted by others above, that number could've been higher as we know every show isn't selling out, and some tickets are reportedly being sold under face value.

That said, Live Nation, Guy Oseary and M clearly know what they're doing - the price of tickets, intimate venues, set list and showtimes are only likely to appeal to those most ardent and committed fans. This is not the Sticky & Sweet Tour, designed to sweep the most amount of money by appealing to the broadest and largest audience possible.

It's an experimental tour, within an already incredibly commercially successful career. So far the reaction to the show itself has been overwhelmingly positive, even if the process of buying tickets has been an endurance test for far too many fans!

For some further comparisons, Janet Jackson averaged $448,030 per show, for 79 dates, and an unconfirmed total of $42.3 million, during her 2017-19 State of the World Tour, which was a far more comprehensive greatest hits tour, playing mostly arenas.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_of_the_World_Tour

Mariah Carey took her last album Caution on tour playing 34 dates to a reported $7.4 million gross*, playing theatres similar in size to Madame X.

*8 dates are missing from Wikipedia, and gross for festival dates are not included.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caution_World_Tour

Madame X won't be the commercial high-point of M's career, but that's fine - it was never intended to be - but it's already being noted as a creative stand-out.

& if M ever wanted to go big and rake in the most amount of cash possible, she could easily do what Springsteen did in 2016 with the River Tour - a 35th Anniversary revival tour for his 1980 album The River. Imagine if M did a 2020 30th Anniversary tour of the Immaculate Collection. The general public would go nuts for it! It would easily be the biggest tour of her career.

But maybe that's just not her style...

Either way, it's great to hear so many positive reviews of Madame X, and taking these kinds of commercial and creative risks can only reflect positively on her legacy as an artist. Go M!

  5. Oh dear, oh dear... well this feels very frustrating and now I feel ripped off. Live Nation really overstretched this one. Why did they make the tickets so damn expensive and then keep adding more and more dates? I’m sure they will sell out nearer the time but it will be at a fraction of the cost, while long serving fans have had to pay over the odds without even knowing what they were getting! Err... Ultimately this will reflect badly on Madonna, when this is all Live Nation’s fault.

The silver lining is I’ll probably ended up going to 15 shows in London for the price of the first VIP ticket, I bought for 1 date!

I really hope they don’t stream the first show. It’ll just open her up to all the usual criticism - she can’t sing, she can’t dance, blah, blah, blah. That won’t help sell the tour; just release God Control video, and give it a high-profile and controversial performance quickly!

I’m really beginning to question how Many tickets per show were actually £65 I’m looking all over and people who have got back seats are still paying over £125

I was thinking the same thing, but they seemed to have shifted. The Material Girl indeed! I bet Live Nation announce more dates too.

  7. Eek! I've just got my London verification code email!

    Interestingly it says:

If you are not successful in buying tickets for these London dates, please ensure you keep your unique code in the event that additional Madonna Madame X Tour Dates are announced.

There is a gap between London and Paris, so assuming if she doesn't do 3 back-to-back shows, and doesn't work Friday, then they may add 3 further London dates on the 12th, 15th and 16th. This is pure speculation of course.

The general public sale starts Saturday 9am, so if anyone doesn't get the email/code, then I'd suggest holding tight for Saturday and potentially more dates may follow.

I bet she will do her usual 8-10 new songs. 5 hits, and maybe 2 or 3 deep cuts... it would be nice if she had a special section in the show where the songs are randomized on each date kinda what she was doing during the third section of rebel heart (secret, like a prayer, take a Bow, crazy for you, ghosttown on different dates)... but with even more deeper cuts this time around

That would be awesome! I'd love her to play some really random songs like Physical Attraction, Angel, Love Makes The World Go Round, I Want You, Bad Girl, Skin, How High, What It Feels Like For a Girl... There are so many possibilities!

There are very few tickets under $400, especially in NY, so the average ticket price is well over $400.  She's doing 17 shows there alone.

Wow! Well there you go. It's interesting because the size of the venues on Sticky & Sweet, MDNA and Rebel Heart kind of dictated that she play to the masses, so the set lists included Vogue, Like a Virgin, Like a Prayer, Music, Holiday, La Isla Bonita, (oh and let's not forgot Candy Shop!) - all songs that long-term fans are probably a bit bored of hearing by now.

But this theatre tour will allow her to prioritise Madame X songs first and foremost, and hopefully much deeper catalogue and album tracks that we haven't heard for ages, without the average Joe-public complaining she didn't play the only 5 songs from the 80s they know. Assuming we can all get tickets, this could be a very clever way of 'syphoning out the wheat from the chaff', so her most ardent fans get an up close and personal experience and a far more creative show, all whilst still making a tonne of money.

And where Madonna leads, others will sure to follow.

  10. I'm very interested in the economics of this 'little' theatre tour.

At the the moments she's scheduled to play 67 dates (47 in the US, 20 in Europe), but looking at the gaps in the itinerary, she could play another 17 in the US and possibly another 10 in Europe, which would bring the total to 94. That's assuming she doesn't extend the tour, but it would also make it her longest tour, surpassing MDNA's 88 dates. More likely it'll end up being somewhere between 80-90 shows, similar to Rebel Heart (82 dates) and Sticky & Sweet (85 dates).

Obviously the overall attendance figures for this tour will be much lower as she's playing theatres, averaging 3,000 tickets per show, but if she played 85 dates that would be 255,000 in total attendance.

However, the average ticket price will be much higher this time, so if she played 85 shows, averaging 3,000 tickets per show, at an average ticket price of $300, the tour would gross $76,500,000. But if it's an average ticket price of $400 it would gross $102,000,000! Given that demand will far outstrip supply, I wouldn't be surprised if average ticket price ends up being far higher on the secondary market, meaning this supposedly scaled-back, intimate little theatre tour could end up being another huge money-spinner for her and Live Nation.

  11. More dates have been added to New York, LA, Chicago, and Los Angeles, and the dates for Boston, Philadelphia, Las Vegas and Miami have been announced!

There are now: 17 dates in New York, 6 in Chicago, 3 in Las Vegas, 11 in Los Angeles, 2 in Boston, 3 in Philadelphia, 5 in Miami.

Looking at the gaps it's possible they could add more to Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Boston and Miami, but probably not for Philadelphia.

When you should get your confirmation to buy ticket in london if you are normal register?

I think it's a some point on Thursday, but can any of the Legacy members confirm what time they received their email/text for the pre-sale today?

I wasn't going for the top tier tickets (not paying £500, sorry M) - I went for a front row seat in Upper Circle. I really think you won't have any problems getting decent seats even in general sale :).

Here's hoping! I haven't had this much anxiety buying tickets since the Drowned World back 2001. I wish I'd been old enough to have seen the Girlie Show at Wembley Stadium. That would've been cool!

Congrats to all getting London tickets this morning ?

I'm hoping for general sale on Thursday. Any advise on the choosing of dates? I really don't care which date I go on just that I get the best possible seats without VIP. I'm worried about having to select a date and only have access to the tickets for that specific date. I'll be fretting and panicking about that whilst better tickets are selling out in the other dates... ??

If there is any generous soul who has a spare presale code that will be unused who is willing to donate I'd be forever grateful!

This is probably a ridiculous question but if anyone doesn't want to use all of there 4 ticket allowance, please put me out of my misery and DM me? I'm biting my fingernails down to the bone in anxiety...

  15. Question to everyone who's already got London tickets - are you all just getting the most expensive tickets, or getting the VIP packages to ensure the best seats? I only ask because I assume Icon members wouldn't bother paying extra if they can the best seats relatively easy. I have no idea how many Citi card holding fans they're might be, but they'll take a chunk of the best seats as well. Therefore I'm assuming the only way to get the best seats from the public sales would be via the VIP packages, since the most expensive seats will have already sold through by that time?
