  1. I remember during DWT people in my section making comments like "What is this?", "When is she gonna do "Like A Prayer" etc.

But I was on cloud 9. First time seeing her. And I loved every bit of ROL/ Music so it was all good to me. I would even trade out Secret and Holiday for tracks like Skin, Bedtime Story etc.

THEE highlight was "You'll See" though. I know some people are pissed about the lack of band, but she can still do a major show in that style after this. But if Mama is gonna let us have an all dance extravaganza, now is the time.

  2. I've been out of the loop for the last day or 2 and this news from Stuart is what my dream was for this tour. She can do an intimate show with a live band as her next adventure. I feel like she's about to blow my mind and put on the show I've dreamed of for 15 years. Shaking and crying tbh.

What's this business about a 70's cover/mashup? I went back several pages but couldn't find it. There are so many mashups that have been done over the years. "Vogue" with Chic "I Want Your Love". "Express Yourself" with Sister Sledge "We Are Family" immediately come to mind. And "Holiday" goes along with the whole "Get Together"/ Stardust "Music Sounds Better With You"/Chaka Khan "Fate"/ The Whispers "The Beat Goes On".

  3. DWT as Madison Square Garden was my first. And that really simple opening of Drowned World into the chaos of Impressive Instant (one of my favorite M songs ever) was something.

RIT: The Beast Within/Vogue/ Bedtime Story: Peak Madonna insanity for me.

But the most special to me is when she played Tower Records for American Life. Touched my hand during Hollywood.

The only tour I regret not going to since is, of course, Confessions.

Oh for sure nobody will claim about proeminent backing tracks here and there, we just want to see M sounding natural even at her age and not trying to channel some cartoon icon such as Minnie Mouse.

Agreed. I'd be here for her doing a Minnie Mouse look though. A nice change of pace from Marilyn.

I hope Madonna lip-syncs rather than giving us really bad vocal performances. I mean, she doesn't have a good technique anymore and I think her vocal chords are damaged too. Sometimes she can't even stay on beat or hit the right notes. I'm thinking about her performance with Maluma, and that disastrous show in Harlem in 2021 where she sounded awful... And during the Madame X tour, she used autotune on almost every song (even on some parts of 'Frozen').

I hope she either gets herself together and practices with a voice teacher, or she makes smart use of playback, maybe with some pre-recorded parts (but not the studio version), like she did during 'Celebration' on the MDNA Tour. Or she could just lip-sync the whole song like she did with 'Vogue' at the Reinvention Tour or the MDNA Tour.

I'm not trying to be a debbie downer and am not trying to beat her up here. My only thing is a lot of these songs are not that easy to sing live (even back then!). All of our voices change as we get older. It is what it is. I'm just wondering if fans are taking all of this into account when they request these songs she did only one time thirty years ago. Either way this is the most excited I've been about an M tour since Confessions and can't wait to sew what she chose and how they present it.

Well, Vogue RIT Studio Version was clearly a newly rerecorded take by then. Thank Pleroma they didn't even to make a try of some lipsynch to it to sound more authentic to attendence's ears.

To sum up this question as a whole, shall we quote the father of modern English:

"To lipsynch or to not lipsynch, that is the question."

Yes that's my point. If we are getting "new live vocals" like RIT "Vogue" then I'm not so concerned. If it's all live...*blesses self and genuflects*

Agree. As bonkers as it seems I can sorta see why they went ahead w/AL as the first single. Rap/r&b/crunk had again pushed pop to the side and was dominating radio. The AL rap is ridiculous, but maybe bc it had a rap they just said, “welp let’s see what happens🤷‍♂️”.

I’ve seen people say many times over the years that Hollywood would have done better but I don’t believe it. Instead of a (small) backlash people would have just rolled their eyes and changed the channel. NF is beautiful but even that wouldn’t have got much traction as a lead single.

Honestly even Don’t Tell Me wouldn’t have done as well as it did had it not followed a massive, obvious hit like Music. What she was doing back then really was challenging for top 40.

Agreed with all of this. Her looks in the Hollywood video are some of her harshest too (I personally love them). And every interview was about how being rich and famous won't bring you happiness. Americans didn't want to hear it then or now.

  8. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE every single song being mentioned here. Do we know if she is having background singers this time? I have no doubt she could turn out the verses of Rescue Me, but the chorus where she thought she was Aretha for 5 mins in 1990 is a little tricky now no? NRM is top 10 M for me, yet I never rewatch the one single live performance we have of it because the mic was on.

20,000 cigs screeching along to "and you'll always be my baaaybaaaaaaaaaaaaayggghh" is choicey.

If everything is sent through the real time Stuart Price vocoder or we get "new live vocals" like Vogue on RIT, then forget my rambling and do the whole songbook.

    confusing yes..but.. fascinating?

Yeah, to me. What other era had her being interviewed with her rabbi saying she was in the 1% of people who truly "get" Kabbalah? What other mega star is telling us it's all bullshit today? She could have kept on riding high after Evita/ROL/Music and put out Hard Candy. People love to compare her to other current female pop artists. How many of them have gone as far as that original AL video did? It's considered a flop with no hits but was one of her biggest club records ever via the remixes. Her going from wearing couture Lacroix with the wolves reading from Revelation one minute and then selling Gap jeans with Missy Elliot the very next is fascinating to me.

  10. This has always been an unpopular opinion, but I never thought "Nothing Fails", "Love Profusion", or really any tracks from the album had big hit potential in the US. Controversy or no controversy, she was making music that was really different from anything charting at the time. It's forever wild to me that the same  Warner Bros. who didn't want "Impressive Instant" as a single, heard the AL album, saw the video and imagery and thought..."This is a great idea!". Had she released Hard Candy during '03, instead of AL, it would be considered one of her best.

  11. I've said it a million times but this would have been the perfect time for them to remix her classics. Imagine Peter doing "Causing A Commotion", Victor doing "Like A Prayer" etc.

Throw in "Impressive Instant" as the new song with a proper video and boom.

At the time I would buy anything she put out, but this project came off very lackluster even at the time. Those various megamixes/megaremixes were the only thing interesting about it for me and they were promo only.

This track list is also something to consider for those who think they have the Celebration tour all figured out. Her idea of a "greatest hit" can be....interesting.

i dig this song..... catchy... but hated the remixes

Like most Madonna songs, I'm sure with the right mix, I would love it. Her vocals and delivery are cool, but the production sounded dated to me at the time. The same could be said for "Thief of Hearts", but I just think it's a better song. And the house mixes sound really cheap to me in comparison to David and Shep's house mixes for her at the time. We need the stems so her fan remixers can mix it properly. They've been doing better mixes than the official ones for years. I would love to hear a dark electro version.
