Am I the only one who think it doesn't sounds ballroom ?! It doesn't even sounds 90's. Sounds more like something mid 2000. The only thing that can sounds ballroom is the way they rap but the music isn't ballroom at all in my opinion. Or maybe a modern type of ballroom but def not the 90's one.

It's not a literal paint-by-number ballroom throwback. It has ballroom ELEMENTS. The "Ha Dance" snare hit sample specifically. But also the rhythmic, staccatto synth stabs. Both elements are trademarks of the ballroom sound.

But the rolling tech-house bassline during the drop and the middle eastern strings make it unique and separate it from being another stale ballroom track clone (of which there are a lot).

merch at venues can actually be more expensive than ordering online from the artists store

That's because the venue often gets a cut of merch sales. So they mark it up to make the difference.

Music videos make money. Every click brings revenue. It also keeps you in the public eye.

Yes this might be true. But it's pennies considering how much it cost to make the video. An average Youtube video pays out about $12 per 1,000 views. If the video gets a million views that's only like $30,000. For context: the music video for Die Another Day was $6 million. The video for Express Yourself was $5 million. On average her videos have cost around $1-2 million.

The cost vs profit/exposure doesn't make sense.

Just like terrestrial radio plays - the music video medium doesn't matter as much anymore.

I love music videos but the media landscape is changing and this just isn't how the average consumer is digesting music today.

    Are you for real?

Yeah I am. I don't like it. Yes, her vocal is great. Nothing about it is *bad*. But the song doesn't connect to me as a Madonna fan. Nothing about it is on brand for Madonna. It's a cheezy cover from a really bad movie. I stand by that statement.

Interestingly enough, given the song's title, it didn't chart that great in America outside of the dance chart. But abroad it was a hit.

The original version by McLean is iconic and is rooted in southern folk/rock. To me, it was an odd, off-brand choice for Madonna that makes little sense in the film it comes from.

Again - just my opinion. If you enjoy it - enjoy it.

There was a whole scene with the cast singing the song in the movie.  While Madonna was hesitant in covering it, Rupert Everett convince her to do so.  I personally find it a lovely cover.  She sounds very beautiful on it.  Even Don Mclean praised her cover. She stayed true to the song and Orbit's production was a great way to modernize the classic.

I wouldn't mind her singing it on tour.  Do I think she will?  No, but it was a hit for her most everywhere but the U.S.  It went #1 in over a dozen countries.

I've seen the movie. I know there was the scene with the song. But what does the song have to do with the plot or anything? It just doesn't connect to me and feels random. The lyrics don't have anything to do with the plot. It's a poor choice among MANY poor choices in that movie. It's just odd to me.

But yes - she sounds good in it.

Not trying to yuck anyone's yum. It's just not for me.

  6. The fact of the matter is that videos are expensive and don't move the needle nearly as much as they did in the 80s and 90s. Its not how most people digest music these days - especially with the advent of Tik Tok and Instagram stories.

Yes, I miss music videos but look at Beyonce who had one of the biggest albums of 2022: no videos. She didn't need them.

still with the red / blonde hair

It looks like she's she's had it bleached a little which is a typical "in between" phase when going from dark (or red in her case) to light blonde as to not destroy her hair.  Blonde Madonna is coming back!

She's right though, people have talk shit about her on his show.  He eats it up. Even when it's nothing really, he's like a teenage girl looking for any sort of tea to be spilt on her. I realize that's kinda what his show does, but I get the impression he's two-faced. He will kiss your ass to your face, but then go behind your back and rip you to shreds.

So he's like most of the people on this forum?

  9. These are well done filters but you can tell they're filtered by the slight flanging and artifacts throughout the acapellas. Also the "dry acapella" isn't dry at all - there is still a tinge of reverb coming through and some heavy delay on parts of the vocals.

Having said that - they're still pretty good filters

well news of madonna hinted at most songs and the request songs were spoiled and we didn't have an idea, since it was the first time she had a request section. perhaps she will do the same this time around, some kind of a juke box ....

She had a request section in the Sticky & Sweet Tour before the Rebel Heart Tour. Also: they weren't true spontaneous requests. She rehearsed the songs in advance with Monty each day before the show.

I’m gonna be a negative Nancy but I can’t see this collaboration setting the charts a light, with the general public they are 2 of the most disliked or even irritating artists at the moment. I would like to be proven wrong and I will eat my words if it’s the opposite.

The world has moved past the old model Billboard charts. Like a decade ago. It's 2023. The "charts" are 1) not accurate of popularity any longer,  2) not influential, and 3) don't make artists money like they use to. Quit looking at that as a singular measure of success. It's not 1995.

  12. In the video, Sam says "Unholy won't be the last song" at that concert and that they had something special to play after it.

Sam Smith's last two songs in their setlist are "Human Nature" followed "Unholy."

I don't know why they would play "Human Nature" then "Unholy" and then "Human Nature" again.

    I don't think it's a "Human Nature" remix.

I find it hard to believe he ripped off a random fan remix from when he was a toddler. It’s not a huge leap to put those two songs together.

Well considering he's mashing up a Lynyard Skynyrd song that was released 25 years before he was born with a Madonna song that was released when he was in diapers, it isn't out of the realm of possibility that he heard the original 2002 mashup later and was ... "inspired" lets say.

By the way - it wasn't some "random" remix. It was so popular back then with DJs that they went forward with pressing it to white label vinyl and sold it all over the world. I have my copy in storage.
