There's only one album per artist listed, so LAP will be the only Madonna album there.

That whole list is a joke though. They're revealing the higher positions now and... well, joke.

Beyoncé, Beatles, Prince, Stevie Wonder and Radiohead have two albums on the list.

  3. Just a side note regarding Britney… I so wish they had ended the conservatorship right after the 2009 Circus Tour as they had told her. Britney was reportedly told an extension of the c-ship would help her obtain insurance for that tour, and that once the tour was over, the “permanent” c-ship would be lifted.

Britney went through the whole tour—97 shows across the world! I don’t need to tell you the amount of discipline it requires w/ all that travelling and rehearsing. And she had to face the public, perform well for her fans. She did not miss one show! Only one concert was cancelled due to a contractual dispute.

The tour proved that she was of good sanity and stability. They should have ended the c-ship as early as possible afterwards and just made sure she still had access to therapists, doctors, financial advisers, etc. But no… They instead pretended she was still “gravely disabled” and “susceptible to undue influence” in order to keep her on a leash. It’s only in late 2021 that they finally ended it after Britney’s father stopped fighting it. No wonder she’s admittedly so broken, but I hope she totally heals from it, whether or not she goes back to recording and performing the way she used to.

The DVD audio for the CT wasn't redone in the studio; they took the best parts from multiple shows and then slightly used autotune on the less precise notes. The same thing was done for the MDNA Tour and RHT. However, the S&S was heavily re-recorded in the studio. They will do the same for this DVD as well. As for the audio, I can't complain too much, only the MDNA Tour's was poorly done. My concern is with the video. I hope it maintains the level of filters on her face that we see in the concert screen images and that they don't use even heavier filters. And I hope it's not that for every song we will see 200 outfits, 200 different hairstyles, and editing that could trigger epilepsy, because this time I will sue for not having a warning at the start of the video... After all, they always put it in video games.

"However, the S&S was heavily re-recorded in the studio." Were there any actual live parts, pitch corrected or not? And by the way, is it true the Super Bowl performance (incl. CeeLo Green's parts) was 100% lipped?

I've been looking up some videos of Dave Gahan, and it seems like he's still nailing live performances in 2023. I'm going to dig a bit deeper into this.

I loved this tour as much as I hated the interlude with Michael Jackson. MJ spent a lifetime speaking poorly of her, and there are also many doubts about his being a child abuser, yet she defended him in a way he would never have done for her. Moreover, to say "he's the king and I'm the queen," she put together an extremely forced interlude, where the two tracks weren't even well mashed up. It felt forced. I thought the same thing. A rework of Love Song with a tribute to Prince would have been amazing.

To reiterate what I said earlier...

Maybe Madonna’s just separating the art from the artist, but I very highly doubt so. If she honestly believed that MJ was into climaxing to little boys’ bussies (as alleged by James Safechuck in Leaving Neverland), she’d likely be as repulsed as some of her fans. Madonna’s a very smart woman, a lot smarter than many give her credit for. Don’t you think Madonna did her own vetting of MJ?

She defended him back then in 2003 after the airing of Martin Bashir’s documentary Living with Michael Jackson. I remember her saying that the negativity sent to Michael would go back to the senders or something along the lines. And she defended him again after the release of Leaving Neverland in 2019, saying she does not have a lynch mob mentality.

Just like Madonna stated herself, I do not believe the accusations unless they can be proven without a reasonable doubt, and at this point, there likely won’t ever be, esp. in this age of AI and deep fakes.

    -------------------------------------

    1. Evan Chandler, the father of Jordan Chandler, did not go to the police. Instead, on August 4, 1993, he demanded $20 million dollars. MJ refused.

August 4, 1993 – A meeting takes place between Michael Jackson, private investigator Anthony Pellicano, Evan Chandler and Jordan Chandler in a suite at the Westwood Marquis Hotel. Later that day, Evan Chandler and Barry Rothman meet Pellicano in Rothman’s office where they make a demand for $20 million to not turn to authorities and to not go public with allegations of child sexual abuse against the entertainer.

It’s only after MJ’s refusal that he had a lawyer file a $30 million dollars civil lawsuit against MJ. More on all that stuff here, here, here and here. As Janet Jackson once said, if somebody hurt her child in that manner, she would not want the money—she would want much more terrible punishment...

    2. As for the other accusers, plenty of info can be found here, here, here, here and here.

James Safechuck, mentioned earlier, alleges sexual abuse at the Neverland train station that did not even exist at the time. More on this here and on this tweet by Leaving Neverland director Dan Reed here. By the time the station was built, Safechuck was 16, and the alleged abuse ended when he was 14.

I could go on and on, but these are some of the reasons why I’m with Madonna on this. And did MJ truly disparage Madonna all that much?

This is so fucking awesome.  This was a cool thing for her to do.  I had forgotten that she practice how to play baseball in Chicago for the A League of Their Own film.  Such a beautiful moment this is!  This may be the closest we'll ever get to a live version of the song, and I'm soaking it up big time!  Just wow!  She sounded great singing it and once again, I love how she got the crowd to sing along to a song that I'm sure most the general public has forgotten about. Hell, I think most of us fans thought Madonna forgot about it. LOL!

Many in the audience surprisingly remembered the words. After all, it was a number one Billboard Hot 100 hit, her last single and hit before the end of her early 90s pre-Erotica peak.

I hope Madonna’s next tour will delve more into deep cuts and unperformed singles such as “This Used to be My Playground,” “I’ll Remember,” “Rescue Me,” “Crave,” and some album tracks from “Pretender” to “Wash All Over Me” to “Faz Gostoso.”

Bored. The setlist is good as is. The only things Id add are Like a Virgin, Music, Express Yourself and Frozen permanently... and maybe a Material Girl interlude instead of that MJ crap

Only thing I’d change is add the long overdue “Rescue Me.” Can you imagine how such a gospel-house stunner would sound live in a packed venue?

As for that medley… I love the “Like a Virgin / Billie Jean” section; it’s such a great nod to the “Virgin / Thriller” era. I esp. like the new vocal sound of “Like a Virgin,” and the “Angel” snippet.

Also… It’s interesting to note that in 2009, Madonna said that she didn’t want to jump on the MJ accusation bandwagon (having herself been accused of so many things, incl. child trafficking and paedophilia) and that she would look into possible motivations of the accusers (Wade Robson and James Safechuck). She also said that she’d eventually take some time to watch Leaving Neverland.

    https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/news/madonna-michael-jackson-sexual-abuse-allegations-leaving-neverland-a8903146.html

Some Madonna fans replied that it was just that—Madonna not having watched Leaving Neverland yet—implying that if she watched it, she’d automatically rescind her support for MJ. It’s now been almost five years, and there she is, paying great tribute to MJ on her Celebration Tour.

It means one of these three things:

    1. Madonna watched Leaving Neverland and doesn’t believe the accusers.

    2. Madonna still hasn’t watched Leaving Neverland, which would show how little does she care about it.

    3. Madonna watched Leaving Neverland, fully believes the accusers, but has decided to separate the art from the artist.

I very highly doubt it’s number three, so Madonna may be in a way making her own statement with that homage.

I was comparing the 2024 remaster of "Material Girl" to the 2022 remaster, and I'm starting to think the 2022 remaster from FEL actually is a different mix.

I think the main difference is that the drums sound wetter (more reverb) in the 2022 remaster, which is supposed a 7" version. The snare drum totally has more reverb on FEL and the hi-hat is quieter and less crispy-sounding. That wouldn't be a result of mastering, but of mixing. And I could totally see a record company in 1984 just slightly changing the mix of a song for the 7" version. Remember all the different "mixes" of Cher's "If I Could Turn Back Time"? Each one just had slightly different levels for each instrument, and therefore they classified them as different mixes. But you could BARELY hear the difference in each one, if at all.

Opinions? Wait, I actually don't want them.

Also I think it's a way to separate the 12" dance Extended and the album version by using a 7"

They should have used remix edits instead, fanmade or not.

  10. Was this posted?

Some of the comments (if she sounds good, some believe it must be lipped 'cause they are conditioned to see her as a non-singer):

@clintmitchell8816 why do you always have to say “she’s not the best singer in the world”? You leave the impression she can’t sing and that is certainly not the case. You’ve heard many recordings where her singing is top notch like “Lament” (Reinvention Tour) or Sooner or Later (Oscars) most of her peers couldn’t match vocally. Try “Express Yourself” “Why’s it so Hard” and “Holiday” from Girlie Show.

@cristoferchanimak She mixed up the lyrics lol

    @albertogiovannirinconalfar462 It's all live

@monikel When it sounds "good" it is lipsinked or heavily autotuned.

@jay_ooh I think this is a terrible clip of this song, I've heard MUCH more clearer and closer versions of this exact performance and it sounds AMAZING, no suspected lip synching or anything, ...I really think you chose a bum clip of this performance.

@mclkaraboulad Are you seriously waisting your time analyzing madonna s voice ? Since when madonna was a singer ?

@ayseersoy8348 It’s not live for sure

@mikecairnduff Are Madonna fans delusional? She wouldn't win a lip sync battle if it were her own song.

@SandalioElVolao It wasn’t live. We all know how she sings live. Love her though

@rol_rob2603 Okay, my opinion is... Michael Jackson did lip sync during all the shows of the Dangerous Tour and nobody said anything about and it was Michael Jackson who is supposed to sing 10 times better than Madonna. Britney Spears used playback all the time and people always support her. But, when Madonna sing using a precorded vocals then all the complains goes to her because Madonna deserves it. Give a break!!!!

    ^ @supaaaree soooo true

@xcala3038 She's singing over a track. It's modulated depending on the note. Madonna put the most effort into her instrument when she trained for Evita. All downhill from there. She would get tossed off of "American Idol" in the first round if she auditioned today. Please, be honest. This is a spectacle. The mediocre vocals are not what people are showing up for.

^ @Nichole.Monroe She's a performer. Not a singer. I doubt shed even get through if she auditioned for one of those shows.

@MarthaMansbridge I’m sorry but, whilst they’re hardly stunning vocals to begin with, it was pretty obvious to me and friends that she was still lip syncing to a live recording. She’s clever enough to ensure it doesn’t sound amazing but you’d have thought she would try to sound less strained than she did - I’d honestly say almost none of this show is truly live. We all know she’s had some truly shocking performances, anyone who thinks now, at 65, she’s suddenly discovered how to sing live and in tune is losing the plot.

@earlusmcdivett Jesus Christ, you don’t have to have a degree to know this one song is 100% live. There’s not even a background vocal here. The biggest giveaway here is there is absolutely no difference in sound quality the entire time. It’s also clear to me once she gets up from the bench, she sounds slightly different because of standing up.

@witoldwozniak You’re very nice with your comments, Georgina. It’s all either playback or very auto-tuned vocals, pre-recorded track. But as we know it, it couldn’t be otherwise for the tour to go ahead…

@THATGUYYOULIKE The chorus is lipsync, her WHOLE tone changes. But still beautiful. The music video is beautiful and haunting

@01HGG It's live, including chorus. If you watch other clips, her backing sinners are singing with her or there is a backing track so the tone is different.

@linnpalm4303 She def sings live. She usually does and then have some backing vocals for certain parts on high energy show parts or when it's very stylistic spoken words as in the beginning of Bedtime stories (often it's the back up singers doing it live).

@mistermadonna I was there and she sings live, although there are moments where the backing track is blending in more. It's very well done in my opinion. And I don't care because Madonna is more than a singer, I'm not there for a singing contest, at least she sounds better than ever and you mostly hear her live. Her show is amazing and she is telling her story with her songs. She is meeting her incarnations and younger selves on stage, talks to them, kisses and embraces them. At the end all dancers are dressed Madonna in one of her iconic looks. The show is unique and sometimes emotional. Bad girl is actually a highlight for me.

@simonethefiregoddess904 Hi Georgina, as a vocalist, I can confirm she is singing live. I saw her live twice in London … this tour is unique in that Stuart Price has used modelled mic settings to capture the authentic sounds of the original studio recordings and so there is an analogue sound difference from the different mic studio chain settings for different parts. But I can confirm her live voice all with sibilance, breath and pause are evident in real time in the mix of the arena speakers. They really have focussed this tour more on the live vocals like the intimacy of the Madame X tour for a reflective arena world tour. We heard her cough, some off tuning, fragility, rasp, chest/head voice movement, and overall such strong vocals that were high in the mix and very clear and perhaps too earnest at times but such a testament to her tone, depth and warmth or personality of vocal. Live auto tune and silencer like everyone is using can also modify the tone, vacuum space of sound too. However, vocally this was great. Between the two gigs I saw even on the same song I can distinguish the better vocal performances - which shows that this is a far more human and live event like Madame X. She’s here for the intimate and vocal performance now. Vocal highlights - live to tell, rain ; bad girl, crazy for you, ray of light; low vocal point - human nature (didn’t work and not sure why). Die another day live with its live vocoder effect was actually the best I’ve heard live vocoder in balance between a human live singing vocal and some modulation or distortion ; but I know you’re not a fan of vocoder even for the art. Whereas I like vocoder on vocals for artistic reason. Maybe this is your compromise mid point ground though :) Who knows. Wishing you and family happiness x

@jambogb Love, I was lucky enough to be there also during rehearsal and I can assure you that Bad Girl was sang completely LIVE! Looove your videos 🥰

@user-vd9ml5jz8y Interesting. Have you compared other nights performance of Bad girl? Or read what Stuart Price has said about the show being sung live? As a fan of 40 years I thought it was better than the single version. Madonna is not Adel or Whitney but she is also not Sam Fox either. Good luck with your shop.

@cryinginagoodway.3132 hi vocal coach!!! love your videos, Stuart Piece (madonna's producer) said in a interview that the show is fully live! u should react to Crazy For You from the opening night too, she sounds more clear and truly beautiful.

@b.k8051 I saw Madonna in concert during her Reinvention tour. One thing I can say about Madonna is that she's obviously a perfectionist. Her tour was like a Swiss clock. And her vocals appeared to be all live and sounded very good

@lamusiclover2264 Ive watched various tapes of this tour. I can tell you that she is not lip syncing. She cant move or dance much due to her knee, so she is singing live, but there is an optional backing track that occasionally accompanies her, but to me this is mostly live. There is no live band, Stuart Price said he created the prerecorded entire concert track, with occasionally has some background vocals recorded as well. I think she gave the best live vocals since " Blind Ambition". Yes, she lio synced plenty in the past, but I think she's using her inability to move as much as an opportunity to do more good live vocals. There are so many concert videos posted. Watch the Ines that are from up close where you can see her lips. This is cell phone sound. Now I'm sure they'll mess with and re-do her vocals in the studio for the concert video or film, and it will not sound as life because they always make it sound too perfect.

For me it’s not a problem if she rely on playback for most parts. She do this since the beginning, many songs on the BA weren’t live at all, not even with her voice in the background. I except this now that is not young anymore, even if her dancing steps are much simpler. I think this is obvious for her, I don’t understand why someone complain about it. I understand the pleasure to see a live singer, but after 40 years this is not a news at all. I prefer a good quality show with playback in some parts that a live show with bad voice like the sticky and sweet.

P.s. yesterday some part were live while in the first night weren’t. So I think it depends also if her voice is in shape that night.

Many? Only four songs on Blond Ambition were more or less mimed. “Now I’m Following You” was fully lipped, and that was part of the act; as you must know, Madonna had a musician play a record of her duet w/ Warren Beatty/Dick Tracy, and a dancer, dressed as Dick Tracy, mimed and danced with her.

As for “Express Yourself,” “Where’s the Party” and “Vogue,” they were all live w/ a backing track—the backing track was heavier on some nights, and the Truth or Dare movie versions of “Express Yourself” and “Vogue” were likely dubbed. Besides, Madonna confirmed in Truth or Dare that one night, her headset microphone was not working during a number of songs, incl. “Where’s the Party” and “Vogue.”

All the rest was fully live except maybe a few parts of “Papa Don’t Preach” and a few words at the beginning of “Into the Groove.”

Yeah but even on this occasions were an guitar take removing any intention form the original song. Of course True Blue gets regular play that's what i mean. But these are songs that I personally think with time she grow out from them. In the same way that she does LAV like a random  version every time. For example check how she approaches songs like LAP, LTT, ROL and this time Bad Girl and Nothing Really Matters, is clearly a more emotional attachment to them. She has lots of bops that  appeal to the GP and made her popular but it's clear they don't represent something more meaningful for her, hence they get the chop in this tour.

Do you think Madonna cares much about “Rescue Me,” “I’ll Remember,” and “This Used to Be My Playground”? Those are pretty heartfelt or sentimental songs w/ some depth, and those were all hits. “Rescue Me” is so brilliant, such a gospel house stunner. I’m surprised she never gave any live performance (aside from the Madame X Tour interlude).

Putting aside our different opinions, I think we should all celebrate today. I'm sure Madonna means a lot to each one of us and the fact that she's still with us and still inspiring us is pretty great. I won't lie, I was initially nervous of how she would perform, but I was glad to watch videos of her performing once more.

Also, I know this is supposed to be a celebratory show, but in a way it feels kind of bittersweet to me too. In some form it feels like a reckoning with mortality and the passing of time.

Hopefully Madonna will live as long as Queen Elizabeth II or even longer.
