Because the mainstream has horrible taste in music usually, which might be one reason why Madame X flopped. Guys like Ed Sheeran place no importance on creativity. Justin Bieber Justice album featured some of the most lifeless and bland tracks of the year and that record still had hits only because it was Justin.

Madame X was brilliant and unique.  I still love it and hope that the UK bonuses start streaming soon as they end the album terrifically.  It is a work that elicits thinking and today's people let social media and network news do all of that for them.  People do not put in the effort in. Hence the shit music being promoted.

Sticky and Sweet is not the highest grossing tour of all time and I attended a show myself, the vocals were horrible and the visuals a huge letdown from Confessions. They fixed the visuals for MDNA Tour but the vocals were still not where they had previously been at all.  Sticky and Sweet was decent not great and thats putting things kindly. Also, I cant be the only one who cringes when Madonna plays electric guitar on her tours as if to try and convince anyone she is even remotely competent at playing the instrument.

It was the highest grossing (male or female) at the time.... Newsflash.... records are broken, especially when artists perform 2 or 3x the number of shows that Madonna did for that show.  My earlier statement may not be 2022 accurate but the Sticky and Sweet show broke long held records and still remaons very high on the all time tour grossings list.  As for your critique of the show, you may have drank bad beer at your concert as you couldn't be more wrong about the show or Madonna's guitar playing.  She is actually decent on the guitar and has steadily improved for years.  She is not Prince or Slash and has never claimed to be.  I love Rockdonna and I am proud that she continually expands her skillset.  The vocals were spot on too considering the intense physicalness of the show.  You must Love Me is just one outstanding example.  She brought it.  I loved both the tour and the visuals.  Foe me, the tour was spot on and people seemed to really enjoy the show.  Finally, the GI2M finale was the best ending of a Madonna tour ever.  Such energy.  I was amazed by Madonna's stamina, over the two hour spectacle.  I think that many fans had a hard time letting go of the Confessions era.  Sticky and Sweet was not Confessions part deux but it was amazing.  Don't rewrite history out of love for another era.

Hard Candy was on repeat in my car most of December. Also listened to Sticky and Sweet a good bit too.

I can see that. I go through my HC periods too. Hard Candy is fantastic as a begining to end listening experience.  It flows brilliantly and is produced well.  It is not a "selections" album to me though.  I prefer it and American Life as whole album listens.  Hard Candy ? is a fun album and The Sticky and Sweet Tour was incredible.  Long Live Mdolla!

So.... it didn't happen when True Blue came out, when Like a Prayer Came out, Vogue, Blond Ambition, Erotica, Sex book, Ray of Light, Confessions.... but it happened when she did two Sticky and Sweet Tours... wow, okay.... major....

Sticky and Sweet remains the largest grossing solo tour by anyone, male or female.  It was an accomplishment and it was a great tour.  I went to two shows myself.

  8. TRUE BLUE is LIFE!  It remains a masterpiece and the strongest evidence that Madonna belongs seated, front row, in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.   M was a Rock and Roll GODDESS on that album.  M was a badass and I loved the entire era down to the leather jacket, bleach blonde locks and fingerless gloves.  Gone was the Material Girl chirps, and the Like a Virgin sex kitten homage.  M was not thrashy on guitars ?yet but she became a Rock and Roll Icon during that era.   Madonna was hard for the first time, became equals to Prince and Michael Jackson, and surpassed every on e else on the global rock and roll stage.  #PapaDon’tPreach #OpenYourHeart #LiveToTell #WheresTheParty #TrueBlue #JimmyJimmy #WhiteHeat #LoveMakesTheWorldGoRound #LaIslaBonita

Been a Madonna fan since 83 man, I suggest you grow up before you start telling anyone else what to do. Not really your place to interfere in an argument that he and I were having. That comment was directed at me because the stans dont like facing reality. I cant tell yet if your intelligent or an idiot to be honest. Is it a problem that I am not jumping for joy about a crappy remix with over autotuned vocals?

Don't have a temper tantrum on a social media forum and accuse someone of interfering in something private for responding.  It is nonsensical.

  10. Erotica was a very brave record to make!  Madonna had come off of a string of monster pop records and a string of unprecedented hits (Madonna, Like a Virgin, True Blue and Like a Prayer) and then she changed lanes entirely.  No other mainstream artist would have ever tried such a thing.  Imagine Michael Jackson, Prince, Britney, Eminem, Tina Turner or Janet ever pulling this off or even attempting on such a scale.  They were all carefully cultivated formulas and never strayed.  Never.

The Erotica album is also shocking in all of the right ways.  Madonna used sex in a way that had never been done on a mainstream stage.  She weaponized sex as the ultimate protest against an unjust society, chipped away at many millenniums of patriarchy, and delivered a scathing review of the ugly truths of inequality that were (are still) infesting in society at large.   Madonna shed more than her clothes to make this record but her very skin, psyche and soul.

Clearly, Erotica is not about being sexy, it is about being powerful, prolific, and protecting others.  It was a also a brilliant response to the intolerance of gay people and the largely ignored AIDS crisis in a time when LGBTQ people were demonized by 90%+ of the world.   Madonna created a safe space within Erotica for all who needed refuge.

Perhaps Erotica was Madonna's true Opus as it revealed her at her most vulnerable.  It also killed off the Material Girl forever.  I love this record musically but even more so as a blueprint to love and equality.  Years later, M is still a freedom fighter but this was an unprecedented move to trade in the worldwide applause and accolades for the opportunity to lift others and speak the truth.  For me, I suppose that Erotica is the Gospel section of Madonna's life and I appreciated both the message and being invited.  Erotica never really was about Madonna but about reaching out to other people in love.  It was a sort of love letter and it touched me.  Long live the Queen.
