Snippet from new Financial Times Article

This month, the best-selling solo female artist of all time celebrates her longevity with the release of Finally Enough Love: 50 Number Ones, a career-spanning collection including previously unreleased remixes of her dance floor hits. After that, she will reissue deluxe editions of 17 of her albums — including Like a Virgin, True Blue, and Like a Prayer — alongside singles, soundtrack recordings, live albums, and compilations. John Earls of Classic Pop magazine argues that this capitulation to the lucrative nostalgia market, “after assiduously avoiding it for so long, is her biggest acknowledgment of pop mortality’

    Thanks for sharing this!

We don’t need reissues of live albums…

Still not sure which remixes I find better than the original, even after listening to some of them for more than 35 years (😳), but these :

    • Causing a Commotion (Silver Screen)
    • LAP (7")
    • EYvideo, Non-Stop, Stop & Go, Local versions
    • KIT 12" and why not Supernatural house version
    • JML (Orbit edit)
    • Rescue Me, almost all versions are as good as the Immaculate original.
    • Bedtime Story by Orbital
    • Erotica: MAW remixes & dubs
    • D&DDavid Morales remixes & dubs
    • The whole Fever remix batch
    • Same for I'll Remember
    • SDP / Thin White Duck or Duke / Jacques Lu Cont versions were all stellar
    • Nothing Fails (Peter Rauhofer's Classic House Mix)
    • MATM: Justice Extended, Kanye West & Rishi Rich remixes
    • Ghosttown (RedTop's If I Were a Carpenter Remix)
    • Bitch I'm Loca (ItsMiggs Remix)

    and the beat goes on...

You seem to really dislike a lot of her original versions. Tough crowd or fan-flex?

Yes they were. Unlike Europe/UK and Japan the US did not get any performance for that era until the Grammys and then Coachella. And people complained about that. There were also complaints about the album cover being weird/tacky, the song Hung Up being "too Gwen Stefani," "Why are the lyrics so simple," the video being "embarrassing," "'Push' should be the next single in the US." "Why don't we get proper music videos anymore." The list goes on.

Those who actually attended The Roxy that night had no complaints, trust me.

Seeing that pic of her at the Roxy for Confessions made me wonder. Were people disappointed she showed up there and Misshapes and just danced a little? Were they expecting a performance of some sort? I live in NYC and vaguely remember hearing the rumour she was going to make a club appearance the day of. I know people on the Misshapes list got a text saying "A ray of light appears tonight" the day of and then news spread quickly that day.

I was not disappointed in the slightest, and neither were the rest of the clubgoers that night. The energy was intense.

I almost want to start a seperate thread detailing the experience, and hear other people's memories of that night.

I was in NYC at the time, at the end of a four month backpacking worldtrip. Lucky me with that timing, hey?

  5. …my worry is her voice. By trying to filter it to sound young (the same way she filters her face, incidentally) she sounds cold dead and robotic, even grating (she's been doing it since 4 Minutes, at first i thought it was Demo Castellon but it's obviously something she wants since she's doing it even worst with Lauren D'Elia....that's why i don't blame Ricardo Gomes for his face edits either, he does what he's told to do and that's why he's by her side and not someone else) that's where i disconnect from her.

Bingo. Her vocals do not excite me these days, sadly.

    One of her best.

    Stunning eyes in the video.

The Calderone mix was a MONSTER here in NYC. Bigger than the original I'd say.

The Bigglesworth Mix should have been officially released. Would have been cool to hear what Club 69 or another of her faves at the time would have done with it too.

There's also a mashup of BS with Alice in Chains by the mashup artist, G3RST, that's so good. You can find on SoundCloud. Not sure how to link here.

P.s. She and Mike Myers should have done a Coffee Talk movie.

Where can I listen to the Bigglesworth Mix?

  7. Love to see all the Beautiful Stranger love here! And yes, 1999 was an incredible year to be an M fan.

Does anyone have any other factoids about the song/video?

I'm trying to find the interview where she talks about the making of the song. Does anyone know it?

I thought it was the 2000 Rolling Stone one but it's not, it turns out...

I know that Kevyn Aucoin did her makeup, right?

I disagree with this Wiki entry:

"Madonna's former boyfriend, British screenwriter Andy Bird, was reportedly the inspiration for "Beautiful Stranger."

To me, it's obviously about Guy Ritchie, whereas Time Stood Still seems to be about Andy.

Yes she has worked with different people and had different relationships, but how does that equate to using? Didn’t these other people get something out of  too?
Thevfact that she has worked with different producers and writers is one thing that makes her interesting as an artist because she is always trying new things.

People grow apart and go in different directions, that doesn’t mean you are using them if you later no longer want to work with them or be in a relationship with them.
Who did she use financially? Who was she dating purely for money? She was attracted to guys who did help her in the beginning but that doesn’t mean she didn’t have feelings for them and just was dating them for her career.

I think it's more about how you treat people and the style in which you let them go.

    See Camille Barbone, for starters.

Did the biopics of men like Freddie Mercury and Elton doing those things? Why is this ruthless ambition always brought up when it comes to women?

Decent point but, to be fair, M was notorious for using and dumping folk on her way up; financially, creatively, sexually.

It's not part of the mythology of the two men you mentioned.

t's likely Warner / Rhino has or will acquire the rights - they are aware of it and the demand for it Rhino follows me and have commented and retweeted any Gambler posts etc

We can only hope! Until then, it's not part of her own streaming discography.

Perhaps that lack of embrace for the song has been a passive-aggressive resistance on her part thus far.

Anyway, one of the boys from the AIWTDITAM podcast had mentioned it recently.
