Interesting thread, thank you!

When she appeared on Italian tv she was on her own, without Erika and Chris, so it must be a different trip than UK.

She filmed Discoring in Sardinia, you can read about it here:

Di Gei Musica was  filmed in Garlasco:

https://www.spettakolo.it/2017/11/05/domenica-chicca-fan-madonna/

The first appearance took place at the Rotonde di Garlasco, where they recorded the four episodes of Di Gei Musica, a program organized by Gianni Naso on behalf of the Italian Disc Jockey Association and broadcast by Rai. Madonna sang, strictly in playback, her first single, Everybody. In the States Everybody timidly appeared in the dance charts, but in the rest of the world it went absolutely unnoticed. Including Italy. But the record companies that represented her in our country worked hard to find her a couple of television "passages". Those who were there told us that they went from Fiumicino to Garlasco (in the province of Pavia) by car and that the future star did nothing to make herself nice. Even once we got to the Rotonde, the situation did not improve. Everyone was watching her like a UFO and the comments were like "But where does this one want to go." The attention of most of those present was concentrated on Diana Est (among the other guests, there were Enrico Ruggeri, Jo Squillo, Sandy Marton and the Band of Jocks, a DJ ensemble). Gianni De Berardinis recalls that Gianni Naso himself told him: «Come on, let's record it. Then if we don't like it we won't put it! ». Madonna was quickly introduced by Tommy of Radio Montecarlo, then performed his Everybody leaving everyone quite cold. Her irritating attitude continued even after registration, so much so that there are those who claim that they sent her to bed without even offering her dinner (but this is probably an urban legend). From Garlasco, they moved to Sardinia, to the Biggest disco in Samassi, where he recorded a second "passage" for another Rai program, the then very popular Discoring, which that year, 1983, tried out the traveling program formula.

What really puzzles me is that her record company sent her from New York to Italy just for a couple of tv performances in 1983 and didn’t take advantage of more promo while in Europe during 1983... weird...

If the Italian reports are true, it seems that she wasn't really "ready" for tv in 1983 and needed more preparation. Maybe they tried Italian market before UK.

The reports say  something more like she was acting like a pain ahahahah a diva probably: she always said she was acting like a diva even when she was not famous yet

Madonna was always Madonna, even with Camille, so of course as soon as she had the record deal she acted even bigger. xd

I was trying to find some words from Freddy DeMann about that (or those) European promo tour and how she was very pissed off about the conditions of the trips, hotels, etc. and was calling him all the time about it. But I can't find it! I definitely remember reading that in a book maybe? Or some album anniversary recap on Rolling Stone or something like that.

But yeah, she probably was demanding on those promo tours.

I finally found more infos on her 1983 tour. Before visiting Italy on October 13, 1983 Madonna did a track date at London’s Camden Palace (now Koko) to perform Everybody, Burning up, Lucky Star and Holiday! Her hair style is in fact very similar to the one showed on the Italian performances.

But apparently that wasn’t the first time since she already had done a track date at Camden Palace in March 1983 to perform Burning up and Everybody (which if I remember well she hated because the audience wasn’t really nice to her).

More pics here: https://the-m-magazine.com/2016/12/30/el-show-en-camden-palace/

apparently and unfortunately no video footage of these 2 gigs exist

Great, thank you!

I remember reading here:

That she had a HARD time connecting to the UK audience when she started. They didn't get her at all.

So more infos on March 1983 London promo tour found here: https://recordcollectormag.com/articles/everything-from-everybody

Mark Kamins says he was there with Madonna and that not only she did a track date at Camden Palace, but also very trendy clubs usually attended by the likes of Wham (George Michael), Culture Club and Marylin, Le Beat Route, Heaven and The Wag , of which not even a picture exist on the web...

“Madonna’s first international promotional tour was arranged in March ’83, when Sire sent her on a short promo tour of the UK midway through the recording of her debut album and following Everybody’s UK release in December ’82. With Kamins in tow for “the first and last time”, Madonna played London’s Camden Palace, Le Beat Route, WAG and Heaven. Mark Kamins admits: “Her first tour in England was a total disaster.”

Also found another 1983 attendance of which I don’t know the exact date and I never heard of before:

Madonna at the Buffalo Gals party, 1983. Is it New York or London?

She was in London in February 1983. That's when Joe Bangay took these pictures of her.

Here's a magazine clipping from the March 5, 1983 issue of Black Echoes. The article says she had performed in London the previous week. She played at 3 clubs: Le Beat Route, Camden Palace and Xenon.

Yes she arrived in late february 83 in London and played 3 gigs.

Funny how she dislikes Rusty Egan remix, he actually did a remix of his own remix in 2020 and it’s very good

You have it written in your original post that she performed Camden Palace in March 1983. According to the article, the dates would be February 23 (Le Beat Route), February 24 (Camden Palace), and February 25 (Xenon).

So it was not for the opening of the parisian store (or maybe she did too) but on october 17th 1983 she performed at the afterparty of the Vivienne Westwood World's End show in Paris launched by Elio Fiorucci whom was interested in buying he rbrand as she already did a collection for Fiorucci. At the time she was parting ways with her partner Malcolm Mac Laren and they even had a row during the party. Madonna's black & neon green Keith Haring wool tube skirt from the Borderline video is from that World's end collection.

Fiorucci was a huge support of Madonna in the begining, not only because Maripol was his assistant director in New York, Chris Ciccone worked at his store too. He had bought ID magazine at the time and put her on the cover.

Hi @Roland Barthes take a look at that thread, it seems not only she performed at the Fiorucci party while in Paris in 1983 but she also recorded a performance that aired on french tv in January 1984  !

Just to confirm the February London promotional tour happened between Tuesday 15th February and Friday 18th February 1983

She stayed in North London possibly Prinrose Hill nr. Camden.

Tuesday15th Feb:-  she landed in the UK

Wednesday 16th Feb:- she visited the Warner offices in Soho and Trident Studios also in Soho - just two minutes away. At Trident she listened to a play back of Rusty’s remix, she didn’t say a word about not liking it. That evening she performed at Le Beat Route Club

Thursday 17th Feb:- She performed at The Camden Palace. It’s possible she also sat for interviews during the day in the North London flat she was staying in. At The Camden Palace on stage she jokingly told Rusty he was a shit DJ. Later off stage she told him that she wasn’t joking and she hated his mix……….Rusty himself has confirmed this.

Friday 18th Feb:- She conducted more interviews during the day and performed at Xenon night club on Piccadilly.
Although unconfirmed it’s possible that she attended Malcolm McLarens Friday ‘Buffalo Gals Night’ at The Mud Club following this performance.

Record Mirror wrote about the promotional tour in their issue dated weekending Saturday 26th of February1983 - this was published the Monday prior (the 21st of February) - there is no possible way this tour was the 22nd Feb until the 25th February.

Furthermore in an article written about the visit from the time it states how cold the weather was when La M arrived - if you search through the weather in London in Feb 1983 you’ll find a very cold spot hit the UK during the second week of Feb

Please amend all records let’s get history corrected

xxxxxxxx
