  1. For this live album, why didn't they just:

    - Remove the film's 'intro' track (this is an album, not a film)

    - Remove most/all of the spoken dialogue (it weakens the flow of the album, and the change of sources/quality weakens the listening experience considerably)

    - Leave all tracks in full and unedited (e.g. the dramatic 'hat throw' pause in GC works in the film, but not audio)

    - Include Sodade and Crave in full, even as album exclusives (especially for streaming - runtime is not a factor here)

    - Ensure the transition between each song was seamless.

    - Include a couple of bonus tracks to promote the project (God Control mixes!)

It's nice to have the tracks in HQ, but it was a chore listening through the album. I just want a HQ album with the songs unedited and uninterrupted :stare:

  2. @Shoful Thank you for sharing all of your insider experience and insight into the premiere x

Important question: What's it like actually living in a post-Madame X era world, having finally SEEN this film? What does that FEEL like after the eternity of waiting?

And are you still excited abut seeing the film again on 8th Oct? (One last Q - could you see M in the viewing audience during the film - did she definitely stay present for the whole film?)

Am I the only one who thinks she doesn't look like herself in some of these photos? I don't think it's botched surgery, I think it's got something to do with the make-up (or lack thereof)

For me it’s the high hairline of this blonde wig. Just like other similar ones she has used, such as in Celebration video, it really ages her overall appearance.

  4. David Bowie recorded and released Black Star just before his death but after the recording he spoke to Tony Visconti about his 'next' album. He did not really 'prepare' the album for after his death. Would I like a Madonna album that deals with the theme of mortality and reflection on life (much like Bowie did with BS)? Yes! Mature, honest, dark, serious and brooding. She already has a few tracks that deal with such issues (Mer Girl, Wash All Over Me...)

  5. Even if not in the foreseeable future, at some point I do envisage the ‘return’ or revitalization of physical visual media such as Blu Ray/4K - even for collectible reasons. Vinyl and cassette tapes returned and do garner enough attention to warrant record companies playing ball. Sure, they are fairly limited and niche, but nostalgia plus record companies wanting to capitalize on this are likely to lead to ‘collectors box set’ of some/all tours at some point. Even a phased limited edition release of single titles will be on the cards. Sadly, it’s just a waiting game.

Bob Dylan is releasing a 5 CD set of unreleased songs from the 80s. Yes this is audio, but there is - and always will be - money on the table for physical releases. I think in the coming years/soon when streaming is ‘saturated’ there could be push back towards physical media. When artists want a bigger cut of the financial pie, when audiences tire of streaming fees and platforms losing rights to whatever films/shows… Even the latest story of Scarlet Johansson suing Disney for the Black Widow release points at a future in streaming not being smooth sailing for media producers or artists. Madonna - I’d hope - would be paying attention to this

I’d wager that M’s pride at not wanting to ‘look backwards’ has held up some of these HD releases alongside rights issues etc behind the scenes, but hopefully things will start to change sooner rather than later.

There ain’t even an anniversary this week is it?

I have never understood this whole anniversary release thing. What difference does it really make if it’s a song’s single release anniversary? It has no bearing on anything. The average music listener is not going to think ‘oh this song was released 17 years ago today, so I will stream it…’

Who on earth (aside from avid fans like us) considers or acknowledges the anniversaries of singles? These releases should go by some other measure - fan demand and/or quality/quantity of release.

  7. I have been considering taking my Madonna CDs/DVDs/BluRays from visible display in my study. The initial reason was because the 'easiest' place to have the shelf is infront of the window and over the past couple of years the colour has been bleached out of some of the spines by the direct sunlight. Then I got to thinking - rather than trying to move them, should I just pack them away?

This is a very individual choice, but I was wondering how many of you guys have opted to 'put away' your physical collections. I only have the albums, official DVDs and some bootleg DVDs. And they're only stored on a standard IKEA shelf alongside some movies and other CDs... but historically, I've always taken a bit of pride in the visual element of having them on display. But I hardly ever reach for a physical item these days - unless it's one of the official tour DVD/BluRays...

  8. The song 'Secret' is about being inspired by somebody. You meet this special someone in your life and they have that certain something... a 'secret' that they use to inspire you in your own life. This person offers you lessons to learn and to motivate you in your life. Your life is never the same after it has been affected by this special someone. The 'secret' is this special, unknown quality and power that they hold .

M confirmed this when she introduced the song during the Drowned World Tour film - as she dedicated it to her father. However, she regularly introduced the song by saying it was about 'being inspired':

  9. The one thing that really grates on me when listening to Hard Candy is the incessant and frequent grunting and groaning of Justin Timberlake. Such a grandstander. If I could take his voice off the record (4 Minutes aside), I would like the album a heck of a lot more. The pure definition of over-staying one’s welcome.
