It's crazy to think it's over 5 years it really is...totally is I often think how amazing it would've been if she handled her era different and things like that of course , it all is but alas it all is a juggle ....I very much love what we had but those promos I just feel she could've showcased the world music element a lot more but alas there we go

Eurovision should've been just such an incredible force to go THIS album is a blockbuster sadly I feel it's taken until the Celebration Tour to get things more in line it may be some time until we get new material but I do think before she's 70 we may get another album of new material and a different focus for sure

I didn't feel like it was forced, but I do think that the whole Madame X character could have been better.  I really thought she was going to give us glimpses with each new song and video of these personas she kept talking about while promoting it.  I do feel like the concept was a bit lost and not thought out more better.

Unfortunately, the tour was plagued with pain and she was too stubborn to stop her tour and mend her hip and leg. I felt she should have just cut the tour short and didn't go back touring after the holidays.

I applaud her for experimenting with this album, but I did feel she tried to take the album too commercial when it could have been more Fado and living room sessions style.  Still, I enjoy the songs.  But I will admit that I wasn't impressed with Medellin when I first heard it.

Definitely agree she could’ve fleshed out the Madame X character since some of her description of Madame X sounded like she crammed for a homework assignment at the last minute. When I heard her say, “(Madame X) is an equestrian” I was thinking she could’ve looked just a little bit past her own list of skills. Visually, i especially found the album cover with the short brown wig jarring; I’m not sure if she meant to do a Cindy Sherman type of thing where her face was almost unrecognizable since she was Madame X or because that’s what her face looked like at the moment. Music wise, I appreciated her nod to Portugal but the songs that remain on my playlist now are “I don’t search I find” and “god control” where only she can bust out the kooky rap about “people think that I’m insane”. It give me shades of “gang bang” and in a way, “thief of hearts”.

With the dark hair cover, she was trying to look more like Fridah Kahlo.  It's interesting that you think she doesn't look like herself when her own sister and she thought she looked more like her mother than ever in that pic.  But I agree, the cover isn't necessarily the Madonna we think of her as. And the end of the day, I do feel like she was taking an artistic route both with the album cover and the music.

Liam's gnosis...

That's what you call an "Extreme Accident"

I think you already know EO is my most favourite and relatable song from entire MX album based on my history here on forum right? Talking about gnosis, song tells essentially the whole process of it in a nutshell. We spend all our time on Earth believing we are lost to something, when in fact we are never lost to what should matters to us. This is gnosis.

It is such a complex song in many ways I'll have to research gnosis that's really deep

Once you start practicing gnosis, you'll notice how different you're gonna be from your present and past self. By the way, East Asian doctrines/faiths are all based on gnosis. Manichaeism* last survived in China where there has always been a dichotomy tradition that Confucius brilliantly described.

I have actually edited my post you have quoted given I was giving the wrong name of doctrine. But Manichaeism isn't the best option of a Gnostic doctrine. I recommend Valentinian, Cathaphrigian and the one I use, the Alexandria school one that the scrolls from Nag Hammadi were linked to.

This album was really something different, so it divides us a lot. I hope for the next album she goes more like the weekend last song with her , song, voice and video than Madame x, but well see.

Oh I'd love for her and The Weeknd to produce an album together.  My worry is that his sound is played out now.  But it doesn't mean the two can't create and come up with something new, with a slight nostalgic sound still.

I know, it's a tough call. I felt like that with her Timbaland and Timberlake work on "Hard Candy"; played out. I have a bit more confidence in the Weeknd since he seems to have a broader spectrum of musical references in his work. How about a 3-4 song EP like in olden times? Not a huge commitment to a new era but just something new.

I guess to me it really doesn't matter because I'm thinking the success they had with "Popular", is probably gonna be the closest she'll ever get to a top 40 song.  I feel like.. on the platforms where the consumers are in charge of listening to what they like, the song did very well.  It's just sales and radio airplay didn't match up. Being streaming is the new norm in how people consume music, they need to put more weight on that for songs to chart. Other wise, I'm betting "Popular" would have been a top 10 hit!   It's crazy being The Weeknd is one of the top tier artists out these days.  So it's wild the radio airplay and sales still were weak, but that's pretty much for any artist these days. This is partly why most artists are scrambling in selling varied and multiple format copies of their albums. That merchandising and tour is their money maker.  Anyway, if the Weeknd and Madonna collaborated even on what some considered a "dated sound", it's better than nothing. I never had an issue with Hard Candy and the direction she decided to go with it.  I liked much of the album from all producers on the album even though the Timbaland wagon was a bit too late. I do think as much as some fans champion the record label at the time, Warner really dropped the ball in promoting this album and pushing it out there, other than with the first single '4 Minutes'.  But again, the focus was the tour.  That's where the money was really going to be made.

Popular went top 10 in the UK last summer and returned to the top 10 again earlier this year so it was a hit for sure

Unless she can get a viral song on tik tok it limits her chances of a top 40 hot she's capable! Massively so I mean the landscape has changed hugely since 2019 as the pandemic changed the way us as a culture response to things ....it really is a huge difference and Madonna besides week d and Sam Smith hasn't pushed for mainstream collabs, the levitating Dua lipa remix I guess too but the lack of her in that video was bizarre ! And a choice for sure

Compared to her peers I honestly see her doing more than most bar Cher with her abba covers album and Christmas club dance album there's no one over 60 in pop pushing it the same way ....I mean Cyndi Lauper hasn't released a album in over 8 years! When she was 62 Detour ! Diana Ross to coincide with Glastonbury, grace Jones when she was 60 16 years ago with HURRICANE! like it's a rare spot whilst I wish she released a lot more content between 2008-present as an artist it should've been exciting to see her release albums more regular and sustain eras and things but ....I do look back and think at least 1982-2012 the majority of her sales are genuine physical purchases and sales now ....who actually goes out to buy albums or stream them fully ....it's a crazy world ....I do think she may release another before she's 70 like Bowie managed The Next Day and Blackstar so who knows

I think the spirit of Madame x, being artistical and don´t give a damn it´s the good road. The problem for me is : I don´t the madame x era, don´t like her look, the pictures, her singing, the songs..but for example, when she went experimental with Paradise or Mer Girl, I loved it. So, the idea is good, the direction was good, but the result, for me, not so good. But it´s really a taste matter. Other people here love it. So, for me the thing is that she needs to do something beautiful and for me that´s good be enough good. At this stage I don´t care for hitting number one, she is for sure one of the most comercially succesful artists ever. And nothing can change that.
