Then don't read his book. I'm just saying we know the press is known to make something more than what is.  They count on people like you to take their little morsels they throw out there, and create more of it, generating more gossip and interest.  The more talk; the more books are sold.  The fact is; what Rupaul says of Madonna in his book, is just a very small fraction of what is being said in his book.  And what better way to create buzz around someone's book, by insinuating some cat fight or drama is going on.  It's simply baiting, and as usual our society is quickly to be hooked by it.  LOL!

But it's not about the book quote - that's super vague and I agree, it can be used to create drama and sell copies. I didn't think of it much until I saw the recent interview (March 1 2024) in The New Yorker where Ru Paul says this:

"“In aging, there is a natural flow,” he opines. “And, when you’re against the flow, it doesn’t look right, it doesn’t feel right. The energy around the Madonna thing—it feels weird, right?,” Ru adds, referring to her “chasing arena tours and grills in your teeth.”

A comment which you seem to be conveniently ignoring in all of your responses.

  2. That's disappointing and surprising. Diana Ross, one of his biggest idols, did an arena tour last year at the age of 78. Tina Turner, another huge idol of his, did her last arena tour at the age of 69. Not to mention the fact that Ru himself is only marginally younger than M, and still goes through the hassle of putting on tons of make up, corsets, wigs, high heels, etc, in the name of performance. The lack of self-awareness here is quite remarkable.

Playground was the only one for A League Of Their Own and it was pretty rushed from what I remember. It also appeared on an early tracklist draft of Erotica when it was still called "Girlie Show".

I think the song was never one of her favorites. She was clearly in a very different mood when she worked on it because she was already very immersed in the Erotica project at that time. TUTBMP felt like an assignment song to her.

I don't think that's a fair assessment to be honest, given what the song was inspired by (loss of friends to AIDS).

Always found it a bit odd that M didn't do any work for Niki to help her career. No songs written or direction when arguably Niki could have been a huge star. She obviously had ambitions despite what she said as the Snap thing really took off for her. You'd have thought Niki would have been one of her first Maverick signings.

Perhaps Maverick wasn't jazz enough for Niki... :silly: In all seriousness though, I get the impression Maverick predominantly signed artists who wrote their own material (Alanis, Michelle Branch, Meshell Ndegeocello, Cleopatra, Deftones, etc). Don't think Niki has done any songwriting, unless I'm mistaken. Her tracks with Snap! are bangers however.

Here too, we only know one side of the story. Donna never spoke a word about it, but it's true she never got a step out.

Garrett shares that Donna felt envious because she felt overlooked by Madonna. She mentioned hearing complaints from Donna from other people about not getting a solo after 17 years together, while Garrett did.

However, Donna continued through the CT and concluded her collaboration with Madonna on good terms, for personal reasons alone. So that's speculation

That whole rant from Siedah never made sense to me. First of all, she comes across as slightly unhinged, second of all - there's no way Donna would've done the gospel solo in Like A Prayer, she's not that kind of vocalist. And finally, she went on to tour with M again while Siedah did not.

I keep reading bad stuff about the Cologne reception, both from the audience and the German media. Apparently the audience were dead quiet, some of them giving dirty stares to those who DARED to have fun and sing along, so no wonder she was pissed off after the warm reception in Barcelona, Lisbon and Paris and she posted that fart joke video on her Instagram stories yesterday.

And just read this new one about it on Pop Justice:

German TV was very negative about her Cologne concerts cause she started around 10.

They showed boo-ing tik tok videos and talked how she wasn‘t moving as much.

As trash as that is it does have an effect. I went to my hairdresser today and he had seen that report and asked me why she always starts so late.

And I live in Switzerland and not Germany.

German press have been brutal to her in the last... eras? Especially after Eurovision she was trashed badly. While starting at 10 doesn't help, I think they would have picked up on any other issue to trash her.

Back to Paris for tomorrow, sure she'll have a great time again.

I saw Rebel Heart Tour in Berlin and the audience was comatose too.

  7. Don't Cry For Me Argentina is about her becoming a freedom fighter - thus the images projected on screens, the rainbow flag being put on her, the lyrics ("so I chose freedom"), the "not fear" messaging.

Rain to me is the post-rave comedown, the song has always had a slightly new agey feel to it, it's a chill out track after the partying.

And Crazy For You is definitely about her embracing her past self from that period.

  8. Saw the show twice in London (Tue & Wed) and I'm still processing it. It's fun, beautiful, poignant and unlike anything else. I'm still haunted by the transition from Holiday to Live To Tell and will be for some time to come. She's giving fans so many little Easter eggs - she's clearly been listening and doing this show with us in mind. I don't know how anyone can be anything but in awe after experiencing this. Everyone in the crowd leaving on both nights had only good things to say too, people were smiling and singing on the underground. I'm quite speechless we got a tour like this from her to be honest. A living legend. A fucking icon. Amen.

I'm sure the set list chosen for RIT was more about appeasing people after the release of American Life.  Then again, people tend to over-react about the silliest things. Madonna is hardly an artist known for going on tour, just to play the hits.  It amazes me that even some fans get upset because she tends to focus on her current album release when touring.  I mean; go figure, if she's going to call a tour Madame X, Rebel Heart, and MDNA, people should expect the tour is going to be focused on those particular albums.  Drowned World Tour came after an eight year tour absence, and so she had a lot of material to make up for. Three studio albums, Evita and a couple new soundtrack songs.

Also, let's not forget, even Blond Ambition, that Northern Star of Madonna's touring, had a whole section of songs that were neither hits nor singles (Hanky Panky was released 2 months after the tour started).
