How do you guys feel about Holy Water? It has always irritated me plus I hate the lyrics considering it's 2015 and not the 90s to be harping on this string. I was never fond of the performance either, although it got a lot of love from fans if I remember well

I have a theory that Madonna does know in fact when she records a bad song and then she makes it a point to release it as a way to irritate people, because it's hard to believe the same person who once produced and recorded gems such as Papa Don't Preach, LAP, Erotica, ROL, Music, HU, etc, also thinks that B-Day Song is good enough to be on an album. Plus, until the 00s she had a few boring songs sometimes but during this last decade, whenever she set herself to record a bad song, she really put in a lot of hard work to it, I even imagine her thought when she was doing Autotune Baby "Oh it's still not bad enough, let's try it harder"

I think the same. It can be. She put out such great material and it is as if she wants to spoil her corpus. Crazy!

Love the song.  For me, I see it as something not to take too seriously if not "tongue in cheek".  We also know Madonna doesn't shy away from mixing sexual and religious connotations.  I don't doubt people legitamelty do not like the song for whatever reason, but I have to wonder if one's personal religion or sexual opinion plays part in the reception of this song whether it's good or bad.  While some can relate, others might be appalled by it based on how they were raised or exposed to sex and religion. It may have something to do with their faith or experiences in both.  Me?  I personally am happy to know I don't put limitations on either sex or religion.  I am open to all ideas, experiences and beliefs.  I don't believe there is a wrong or right answer to sex of religion, unless it's intentionally try to harm another.  In most instances, sex and religion provoke people to be highly judgmental, whether they want to admit it or not.

Thanks to all who participated so far.  It's pretty clear based on the poll, most fans are quite objective about Madonna's music.  They may love and adore her, but it doesn't mean they are going to love everything she does.  I enjoy reading different opinions here. It's interesting to see even the most disliked songs in her catalog, there are always fans who still enjoy them.  :)

Sorry, I don't buy she releases a song if she knows it is bad.  I think at the time, she has a special connection to it or  has an experience while recording it that may not be agreeable to some fans.  A song like B-Day Song is surely something she doesn't expect people to take too seriously.  Over time, any artist can look back and realize, maybe the song was as good as they thought.  Artists usually have a connection with a lot of their arts that even their fans can't understand.  There is no way, she is purposely trying to make songs worse as well. Like mentioned, she has some connection to it that her fans and the public may not understand. I can agree it's hard to think what that may be for a song like "Autotune Baby", but as an artist I can see a connection to it that maybe others can't comprehend.

Madonna and Gwen Stefani are the best music trolls on my list

Releasing Autotune baby was fun,Gwen releasing Wind it up,Kuu Kuu Harajuku as a theme song, and spark the fire was iconic

Here's my list, from better to worst. At least, it hasn't been really hard as I rated all of her songs some months ago:

10. Body Shop

9. Funana

8. Best Friend

7. Jimmy Jimmy

6. I'm Going Bananas

5. Best Night

4. Autotune Baby

3. Spanish Lesson

2. Back That Up To The Beat

1. Cyber-Raga

And, if I am able to, here are some honorable mentions: Illuminati, B-Day Song, Love Song, Superstar and Act of Contrition.

I think we as fans tend to take what they choose to release too literal at times.  I don't believe a second either one of these artists are thinking "This song is so horrible, I'm just going to release it to annoy fans".  LOL!  It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but there most likely is some sort of unknown connection to the song, for them to originally want the song released.

Her Flop 10 imo are the following (starting with the absolute worst)

  1. Funana
  2. Superstar
  3. B-Day Song
  4. Hey You
  5. Batuka
  6. Don't Stop
  7. Auto-Tune Baby
  8. I Don't Search I Find
  9. Cry Baby
  10. I'm Going Bananas

These songs are absolutely inexcusable and they have absolutely nothing redeeming about them.

As an extension of the previous list, these songs belong to her Flop 25 imo (in order of release):

  1. Shoo-Bee-Doo
  2. Jimmy Jimmy
  3. Can't Stop
  4. What Can You Lose
  5. Now I'm Following You (Part 2)
  6. One More Chance
  7. X-Static Process
  8. Incredible
  9. Turn Up The Radio
  10. Give Me All Your Luvin'
  11. I Don't Give A
  12. Medellín
  13. Ciao Bella
  14. God Control
  15. Back That Up To The Beat (Every Version)

I didn’t include Did You Do It because it technically isn't a Madonna song. Act of Contrition is more of an outro and for that it’s perfect, so I also didn’t include that. Technically, Spanish Lesson should be includes too but the beat and the melody is too damn catchy. I can look past the terrible lyrics and Spanish pronunciation.
