  1. Mine arrived last night. Saw it today. Love it. Love the focus on her musical journey, the transition from her wanting to be a professional dancer to embarking on a music career. This docu biopic shows clearly how her drive, ambition and most of all, hard work propelled her to superstardom. This has heightened my admiration & respect for her discipline & her focus on getting what she wants. I’m so glad I bought the dvd.

  3. When I was a kid I used to play with my sister and cousins using a cassette stereo or a walkman. We would record our voices and pretend we were hosts or famous people being interviewed like in a radio show. I can only see Madonna and Dan's recording as a mere innocent game. After all, it's not like these tapes were ever intended to be commercially released.

  5. I think Tears of a Clown was a kind of testing for a possible anti tour. It would be nice if she did something like that, with some b sides, non single tracks and even unreleased material haha.

  14. Something about Hard Candy feels so soulless. The album just feels empty and devoid of Madonna. A contract filler. Madonna didn't serve a single look all era. 4 Minutes, Give It 2 Me and Beat Goes On are so far above the rest in quality it's jarring. Candy Shop is a stain on her discography. MDNA is bizzare because it's largely trash except for the highs of LoveSpent and I'm A Sinner. I do however feel like it says more about Madonna as an album than Hardy Candy and I love the Femme Fatale Russ Meyers styling. There's a solid album in there it's just undercooked and she needed never to record embarrassing songs like Superstar and BDay Song. Girl Gone Wild is a bopp but it's very unMadonna. I actually love GMAYL unironically. Even the faceless tracks on MDNA feel better than those on Hard Candy. I'd take Some Girls over Heartbeat anyday. Rebel Heart wins hands down for me. It's imperfect due to the leaks and time constraints etc but I can hear her ambition again and there's some killer songs. Bitch I'm Madonna Holy Water Devil Pray Illuminati Unapologetic Bitch Body Shop Joan Of Arc Heartbreak City Best Night Borrowed Time Veni Vidi Vici Ghosttown Rebel Heart Is an absolutely solid Madonna album up there with some of her best.

  15. To me HC Is Just an attempt to stay relevant by trying to exploit the trendy acts at the time, It does contain some good Songs, but overall Lap is THE masterpiece in Madonna's carreer. I was raised with songs from TB and Lap

  16. I can understand the superiority of Oh Father and Keep It Together over Beat Goes On and Dance2night, but it is beyond my capacity to make sense of the rest of your choices I mean, She's Not Me is perfection both lyrically and sonically and deserved a music video and single treatment. On the other hand, Cherish is quite boring lyrically and the only great thing about it is the music video, but lbr it did not deserve to be a single. Meanwhile, both Promise To Try and Miles Away are ballads with deep introspective lyrics. However, Promise To Try is the usual slow ballad that you are probably going to forget after the first listen and it's the kind of song that could had fit better a stronger vocalist like Whitney Houston (same for Oh father btw). On the other hand, damn it! Miles Away is that kind of rare ballad that rocks hard! It is generally downtempo with a sad/reflective mood but at the same time it's great to dance to it and sing it out loud. That is because the electronic beats are dope and the acoustic guitar is so pleasant to hear. On top of that the bridges are so powerful and the chorus is extremely catchy: an epic ballad that is impossible to forget. Finally, Devil Wouldn't Recognize You destroys Act of Contrition lyrically and its vibe it's way more suggestive and mysterious. Moreover, sonically speaking it's more experimenting as it starts softly with a beautiful piano and then becomes fast and catchy.

  21. Relax and don't create a drama that doesn't exist. Proffessormouse and i spent almost a full hour having fun together via pm after that conversation. See it didn't create any drama, it creates a new friendship. The only thing i've said is "Oh Madona you have smoked too much weed once again" there's absolutely nothing insulting and it's clearly humour. Proffessor mouse was clearly amsued by my comment, you wanna see the screencaps of our private conversation after that comment ? It's even totally silly to begin with having to justify a funny sentence like "Oh Madonna you have smoked too much weed again"...

  22. Im glad Madonna was not involved she would have wanted it about her whole life and talk abotu malawi and kaballah yada yada and we have the wonderful Madonna Rising special. the girl was her twin in some parts but some angles no. She is gorg i feel like she should have lost like 10 pounds cause madonna was so super skinny and fit and her speaking voice was not Madonna at all but they did a great job at capturing her essence . close enough for me watched it twice

  24. What did people expect?? Madonna didn't make it, even if she did she might make even more factual mistakes. It felt dragged out in places but they did a damn good job.

  28. You're absolutely right. But the topic says HC vs. LAP not TB or LAV. LAP brought depth and reinvention to her music, that's why I consider it as superior, despite the sales.

  29. The musical style of HC is very innovative as Madonna experiments different kinds of sound. The album blends with great mastery a wide variety of music styles and tastes, such as R&B, dance-pop, disco, hip-pop and trip-hop. Despite all its producers the album is very cohesive and Pharrell serves some of his best productions ever, like Give It To Me: a song/candy with a juicy disco center surrounded by a crunchy hip-pop shell. Overall each candy tastes differently (“Say which flavor you like and I’ll have it for you”) but they all wisely exposed next to each other and the album progression towards the end is great. Songs like Give It To Me, Beat Goes On, She's Not Me, Devil Wouldn't Recognize You or Miles Away are as experimenting and pioneering as any other Madonna classic.

  35. Thanks for the topic I just finished listening to the tracks and I was looking for a place to share and confront the early impressions. Orbit certainly took his touch by creating complex sound patterns and a much more electronic vibe to the whole thing. Some songs became more energetic (Sky fits Heaven, Skin, Nothing really matters), instead of the subtle, dreamy and much darker mood these tracks had in the early stages. Her voice consequently had to be adapted to the new sound, with a "louder" and firmer attitude, instead of the whispered, gloomy tone of many of the demos vocals. There certainly is an undeniable change between the pre and post Orbit involvement, at the same time, I agree, the soul of the record was already there. Personally, I like the new dimension these demos are giving to the tracks a lot. It's like discovering the other side of the whole project (the demos often have this straight-to-the-core kind of feeling to me, it's the same for the Erotica tracks). One of the things I miss the most in all her post-Music works is just her expressive whispered voice wich such a delicate, sensual and intriguing vibe was able to lend to songs like Inside of me, Secret garden, Bedtime Story, Swim, I want you. I'm madly happy at the moment actually. The tracks I like the most are Noting really matters, whose arrangement underlines the beauty of the armony and the solidity of the whole composition more than the final production imo, Flirtation Dance, sensual and haunting, Be careful, wich I'd say is better than the released version, Has To Be 1, wich is so dark and intense, inspiring complete different emotions, and You'll Stay, intense and very sophisticated. The two Babyface tracks are both good. I'm more interested in I'll be gone, but just for a matter of personal genre preference, Never love a stranger is a gorgeous track in her style. So, after 4 years without a single new note, all at once we're sharing this, just a month or so before the announcement of the beginning of the new era! And I have to say, every time it's amazing rediscovering the sound of her voice! Thanks again for the sharing, whoever you are
