"Ain't No Big Deal" discussion

I'm currently re-listening her albums from the beginning with a friend.

I have "Ain't No Big Deal" attached to her debut album. To me it's the weakest song from this era. I can't believe that Sire even considered this to be her debut single.

What do people on here thing about this song?

The original demo that got her her first Sire contract was better than any of the later studio versions they tried. It got some freshness and cool pop dance quality to it and of course Michael Rosenblatt saw that that sound, plus her quirky image was a cool little killer combo.

I don't love it but it's an essential part of her history. Basically the song that got her in.

I love that song!  But only the official version produced by Reggie Lucas, I don't like the demos.

I don't like it, it is definitely the weakest song from that era for me. 

Cannot understand an obsession of some fans wanting it to be included on the (possible) reissue of her first album. Let's not mix these great tracks with useless b-sides and demos, please. Debut is great as it is.

I love it. I love Everybody (YCD version) but I never liked the album version. Ain’t No Big Deal would have been a better first single.

The sound of Anbd is exactly what was popular around 81-82, sounds like aerobic music

I wished they included it on the first album but Steve already sold it to Barracuda band, and it sounds great!

Its such a fun, groovy song. IMO it sort of bridges that 70s and 80s disco-to-rock sound where it could work in either format.

I love the song.  Obviously Sire was interested in an earlier version before the official released version.  I'm not sure I would say it's a great song to debut with, but it's single worthy.

but Holiday wasn't the first single, it's just the first song that got successful. The first two singles were Everybody and Burning Up

It's a silly little ditty, fun to dance to.

Of course it belongs on a reissue of Madonna. It's the song that got her the record contract, so it's very important to her career.
Apparantly there are three other, rejected, versions in the vault. I'd love to hear them too.
