She was hardly a nobody. Which for a woman her age and relevance in this climate is a great feat. They’ve been chipping away at her streaming status for over a year now and it was already working. But yes being #69 (pun intended?) is huge for her. People here are complaining because they are expecting another huge era like Vogue or Hung Up. It’s totally doable but it takes time to build relevance in the streaming era after years of damage.4 points -

Once again: It’s literally to have every commercially released version of the songs available. I know it may not be for you and may never be able to understand it but let me try to break it down for you: 1. Madonna fans are lazy streamers. They prefer to have their files stored locally or on CDs/vinyl. You know…fans like you and me. In order for her to increase her streaming numbers and to actually make more money in the long run, her fans need to be convinced to move to streaming. That is only possible if the catalogue there is satisfactory enough for us to leave our local file collection behind. 2. In the long run, she doesn’t make more money through physical sales or releases. They are bought ONCE and from then on people listen to them on their CD players or turntables. Does she actually make any money every time someone listens to her music on their CD player? No. Streaming is forever. The files are accessible to EVERYONE and they most likely won’t disappear over night. Every play of a track in her catalogue = money FOREVER. 3. Resold CD singles, promo items, reference CDs etc. are just as much of a money loss for her as file sharing. The money that is made through the sales of out of print or promo material is not going into her pockets. Most of her stuff except for a few rare vinyl only versions and promo versions are available on forums like this. So, by giving us something that we don’t have access to, we are most likely more keen on finally moving to streaming. It’s obviously a matter of taste but it’s definitely the most easy way of music consumption. 4. Madonna is a legacy act. She can’t rely on airplay to get her music out and she most definitely won’t have any big hits anymore. Therefore her focus has significantly shifted towards legacy stuff (Greatest hits tour, re-issue, biopic, etc.). Since that is the time we’re in now, it is our damn right to demand proper and complete re-issues for singles and albums (as announced). Mariah has done it, Janet has dine it too to a certain extent and hell…EVEN J.Lo has re-issued singles from one of her albums with ALL versions and edits included. Why can’t the biggest female artist of all time???3 points -

Sorry but I don't see it that way. While I get why different versions of the same song count as one for the charts - cause they're meant to reflect the most popular songs of that week - I don't think it applies at all to public stream figures on Spotify or YouTube. A single version (when it's an edit and/or single mix) and an album version are simply not the same version, and shouldn't be treated as such. I'm up for merging streams when it's the obvious same version, like "Like A Prayer" on the parent album and "Celebration", but definitely not for edits + album versions + extended remixes, etc. Makes no sense at all to me. Also, it's fun checking which versions perform better, etc.3 points -

Tell that to those who want every freakin edit... digitally and streaming released and if not, they whine and moan about it. No one is going to be listening to all these particular edits in the long run. So hardcore fans might re-visit them, but I would suspect they already have them in their own physical or digital collection. No one beyond some fans will care if they are listening to a 7 Inch version or the edited version or the single version and so on.3 points -

Actually, I agree regarding edits and fade outs don't do much for me either. I see your point about the merging, but to me if they have a different time and/or a different edit or just a fade out, they still should be counted separately. With that said, I don't think it's even necessary to have all these edits with the same exact production, edited down for time (as you put it) even available on streaming/digital. I prefer to have the full original version and any remix or different production available. I don't need a 7 Inch and than an edit or fade out of that same production on digital and streaming platforms. If I want to cut a song short while listening, I'd just shut it off.2 points

I agree. A specific edit ur fade out on the same fucking production is still the same fucking song, just shorter. 🤷🏻♂️ remixes where production is completely different shouldn’t be merged, duh.2 points

It's a similar strategy as for Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies. Initially, only digital downloads for each episode of the series will be available - probably because some of the songs would spoil the plot. The Grease series started in April and the vinyl will be released next week.2 points
-
Well again it depends on which point of view you want to have. If you want to see which Madonna song performs best, you have to merge. If you want to see which Madonna release fares better, you keep the numbers separated.2 points
-
OK, but again it doesn't make sense to merge different versions of the same song when there are clear differences in length, for example "Vogue" Album Version vs "Immaculate"/"Celebration" or "4 Minutes" Album vs "Celebration" edit. They're not the same version in the end. The only clear cases that they should merge NOW are "Like A Prayer" Album + "Celebration" version and "Material Girl" Album + "Celebration".2 points

Absolutely not because it is mixed differently. It sounds different. The 7" Edit of Holiday isn’t rare. It's just rare to find on digital source. This "you need to stop crying over rare edits“ talk is so dumb because the only point in releasing these singles to streaming, is to get her fans to either buy them or stream them. They won’t get the majority on board if there is nothing on there for collectors.2 points -
Yeah same people that if that happens with either of these songs will go saying how Madonna can't have a hit anymore by herself. I think this song was a spontaneous collaboration to boost both of their tour tickets. While creating a bit of social clout and presence. I don't think they are planning to make further effort than share it around and hope for some virality. Same with Popular. it's a collaboration to boost and promote the series. I don't take them as Madonna releases per se. But they help to get her presence in place , and right now that's what she needs.2 points

I get what you are saying. But it's true, she's jumped tremendously in trending and streaming. Since Popular, she's managed to jump over 100 positions. Popular alone made great strides and Vulgar is keeping the momentum strong. I'm doubting she'll ever reach "Vogue" status again, and most likely not "Hung Up" or "4 Minutes" either. But whether some fans like or dislike one, either or both of the songs, she's making some huge strides here. The key now is to transition this attention to her own back catalog, her tour and anything new she does on her own. So while some try to find any way to dismiss or demean what's going on here, they are missing an opportunity to step up and help make her a further success. I'd say if you are spending a lot of your time in fan groups discussing Madonna, you are still greatly interested in her or simply trolling. I don't expect the latter to be helpful, but if you are someone who is interesting to see her career rejuvenated, then let's welcome and appreciate this new found success. Maybe find new ways in helping her get more exposure even if it's sharing some of her back catalog.1 point

Andy Cohen is cheap. He's a massive fan, managed to get close to her and then talked about it in details in his book, in a not very nice way, almost looking down on her. So i get why she avoids him like the plague. And what he and Cooper did to Griffin, tuning against her was the tide was not in her favour, surely is a warning sign of how untrustworthy they are and loyalty is not in their language. Plus Cohen produces pure trash, he's a disaster to pop culture. I kno people like the Housewives franchise but it's garbage, only there to celebrate and promote toxic behaviour. He's part of the problem.1 point -
