    Madame X Tour DVD

The biggest missed opportunity in my opinion was "Who's That Girl." It could have been a substantial contribution to the Madame X persona on tour and there are so many ways in which this song could have been reimagined, most fittingly a dance-reggae version. The fado section was a bit lengthy when I saw it in Paris despite being shortened already, but "Who's That Girl" would really have elevated the mood (and pleased long-time and casual fans) before the typewriter segue into "Medellín." In my head it makes so much dramaturgical sense: "Who's That Girl" tracing out the elusiveness of the Madame X character, the typewriter intro then going into why she's constantly on the run and then presenting her latest transformation as a cha-cha instructor with "Medellín" – before concluding that journey's cycle with the contemplative "Extreme Occident" looking for a benchmark and steadiness of character.

It isn't in your head. For the rest of the world it is. When you have regulations to protect moral, religious or social construction they still a way of censoring the original content to what these establishment want. I'm not comparing, you are. You think that bringing in a radical system or oppressed and compare it to a country that's the land of the free, but it's isn't, make your point more valid. Is it there censoring in eastern culture? In communist countries? In radical religious lands? Yes. But the US, UK had and still having regulations based on prudish family protection laws and religious consciousness that forbid the use of certain words and themes in pieces of art, music and other creative forms. And that is censoring that piece in a platform. Whatever you find it without the blip in any other platform.

  8. I don't know if I would use the term "out of touch" when describing Madonna's music of the last decade or so. She's clearly 'in the know' regarding what is going on in contemporary music, and you can clearly hear it throughout much of the last few albums (and no, I don't think that is a bad thing whatsoever). In fact, some of those albums best songs are perfectly in line with where music/culture is now (or at the time being)...it's just that the work doesn't get its just due when it comes to promotion (and we already know the reasons why). Let alone it's almost as if a pop artist, particularly female, isn't even supposed to be doing such at this point in a career, and yet she continues to create and express as a contemporary artist ... unapologetically. Considering where most popular music is right now, I'm glad she continues to interpret what is current but still through her own very specific lens. It's what continues to set her apart. As said above, she could easily pander to the folks who just want disco dolly 'bops' or spit out a junky album in a week like these lesser "stars" and ride it out the easy way...but she doesn't. And thank god for that.

  10. Madonna got her dues, and many times over. It's just the fans that feel they haven't gotten theirs. You want your fandom to be validated. To know that it was worth it.

  11. taking into account that this "digital reissue" campaing is made surely for the "expected" biopic boom, and when the film is released casuals can go to check her singles in Spotify and HD videos in Youtube, they slowly way they are putting all out make you see when the film will be released

  12. Rock n Roll & Pop were sold using sex. Look at Elvis, the Rolling Stones, Prince....at least Madonna was sincere compared to someone like Michael Jackson whom used sex to sale when he was having none and was not interested in it (with women) but it was part of his lyrics and dance moves (The way you make me feel, the Black or White extended video witht he car scene....). that's why i've always found him ridiculous and always prefered Madonna & Prince over him. But like others said, if you don't like Inside the groove don't follow him, don't interract with him, don't pay attention to him. Why do you want him to share the same opinion on Madonna as you ? I don't like him, i don't listen to his shit and don't follow him like i do with members i've blocked here. We're all allowed to have different opinions, why bully, or make passive agressive remarks here (like some do) because you are bothered by someone on Madonna forums ? It's not that serious. This is not real life. Save yourself from unneeded negative energy.

Usually when the version is just tweaked (for example, adding instrumentations or vocals available on the original multitracks) it's what we called "New Mix" (and many times labeled as "Single Mix" or "Edit"). Looks like a "Remix" for the new elements but it's not a proper "Remix" because those elements were available on the original multitracks. Many times the "new elements" in an edit are available on the original multitrack but not used (or barely audible) in the album version. But that is not a "Remix", it's just a "New Mix".

  15. This is such a tired trope to dismiss her actual musical talents. It really speaks volumes of our sexist society when "she's good at selling sex" and "good business woman" are the only back-handed compliments that some people (generally grown men) are willing to give her. Yes, the woman is a sex symbol and clearly loves the attention but I don't think Madonna has ever been the stereotypical bimbo who caters to the male gaze and has nothing of importance to say. Her sexuality has often been agressive, confrontational and political. She was actually very brave for challenging gender norms and pushing the boundaries in our hypocritical society, especially during the puritanical 80s and 90s. You simply don't become one of the best-selling, highest-grossing and most-acclaimed musicians of all time because of your looks. In that case, Samantha Fox would be the one inducted in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. Like, is it really that hard to believe that Madonna sold 350 million records because people *gasp* actually like her music?. Please excuse the rant but this media narrative is unfair and frankly disrespectful.

  16. I don't care what the footage shows behind the scenes -- Still won't make me, nor most fans, feel sorry for her after the very unprofessional "wait and see" approach she took that resulted in many fans stuck in non-refundable circumstances (e.g. hotels and flights), apart from the tickets. It's really in her best interest to present the show and let it stand for itself. It's fascinating that she seemingly hasn't realized by now how her personal side destroys her brand more every day...between her Insta, her diva behavior resulting in shows starting the next DAY (re: Madame X Vegas show), her rants that go on and on onstage, the way she's presented herself at every public occasion since god knows when... Being a fan of an artist and being a fan of a person are very, very different things. Admittedly -- And please, fans, don't crucify me for this -- But I don't really like Madonna "the person", outside of her catalog, concerts, TV performances, etc. We just don't jive personality-wise, at least based off of how she's presented herself to us. But she has so closely entangled the two for a decade now that it's near impossible to enjoy the end product without it being tainted in some way by her latest antics. Imagine the Confessions era with concerts starting after midnight, canceling shows left and right, and deciding to start the show with the Confessions Interlude some nights, just because? Or showing up at Live Earth the next year in the 2018 VMAs outfit to perform a setlist of Hey You / I Love New York / La Isla Bonita / Like it or Not, kind of like Pride? I have a feeling we'd all have a very different after taste over that era today. If only she would recognize how great her ART is without all the superfluous gimmicks outside of it. I really do believe if it weren't for her personality these days and the extent she goes to put it on display, she'd still be attracting attention from a much larger fanbase. It's easy fixes -- Getting on stage on time, not selling a show as a concert and then using it for 10-minute political rants, having a professional Instagram like any other business or brand, throwing away the ungodly GRILLZ that stopped being popular in 2005 (seriously, WHO is the audience she is trying to appeal to with those? And don't give me the "she doesn't care about her audience, she's an artist" speech -- Yes, she most definitely cares about her audience and squeezing out another hit and wouldn't be collaborating with Quavo and Swae Lee otherwise. Give me a break). Instead, if there is behind the scenes footage, in all likelihood it will continue to present her in an off-putting light with censorship rants and her fighting with management over canceling the tour because she wants to show she's a trooper, and it will be a shame, as the show should be presented without all that baggage. Yes, it had its faults, but it was a beautiful show.

  17. i think the GP has great respect for Madonna as a Legend. Teens regard enyone over 35 a boomer that's just the way it is. In the golden age of MTV established artists like Tina, Cher, Bowie would relaunch their career by getting video on heavy rotation. Not so much in the streming era.

The only reason this song was released as a single was because it was on that compilation. That's why the version's on the single are labelled as: Single Version + Long Version.

I don't know what the setlist is, but I'd rather have much more new songs than old. Even with Blonde Ambition, Girlie Show and Drowned World, I generally preferred the newer songs. Then again, the Madame X album isn't nearly long enough to cover a whole concert. I just hope there is very little debut album, Like a Virgin, True Blue and Like a Prayer in there, which are too different from the new songs.

No, an edited version is just a shorter, cut version of the full length version of a song. As soon as it is adjusted, even if the adjustments are only minor, then we talk about a remix. It’s basically the question whether you just cut the full length version or whether you need to go back to the multi tracks.

  32. InsideTheGroove is the one being annoying to other Madonna fans, he's always under every Madonna tweet only when he has to correct something and brag about it. He never communicates with other Madonna fans there, unless he has to act like he knows better about Madonna, or unless you're one of the people that praise him, then it's all good That's another tweet of him saying why "we" love Madonna. Haven't see him saying we love Madonna cause she makes good music once, he always says disrespectful shit like this, we love her cause she's a good copyist, we love her cause she sell sex, like that's enough, he deserves to get dragged

  33. This is a bizarre take. Do you go to a movie and decide its boring before you've watched it? Am I not allowed to tell anyone afterwards that it's boring if I find it boring? Make it make sense hen? These weirdly defensive takes littering the boards these days. Long covid got the girls good. A symptom.

  34. You're completely misrepresenting what he meant - he posted that in response to somebody saying that Madonna has never used sex to sell her music or advance her career. He didn't mean it in derogatory way at all if you look at the whole thread, in fact, he clearly sees it as a celebratory and empowering thing.

  38. What kind of question is that? OF COURSE she did. But she owned it. And she's always been and still is a very sexual person. And she was clear about being sexual right from the start (but denying the using sex allegations, though ):
    1 point
  39. Sex? What you know about sex? I think she has utilized sexuality brilliantly throughout her career and paved the way for others to do the same without facing the same kind of "historical judgement" she still faces as she continues to push the envelope even today. Sure sometimes its a bit much, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

  40. I don't think she used sex to sell anything. She definitely used sex and sexuality to get peoples attention though.

  41. Well a filmed concert is an interpretation. It will never be even closely similar to the live performance. I’ve been to every show since ReInvention tour and I thought the videos were presenting the shows very accurately. Also she didn’t reshoot the entire show. Probably just a few closeups.

This is absolute insanity. Why should she do any such thing? How did she speak like it had no importance? The amount of projection is sometimes just off the charts!

  43. Ummm first of all the media doesn’t owe her anything. They both profited a lot from each other. She’s not commercially successful because she’s completely out of touch with what the GP is interested in musically and also because she doesn’t compromise. It would take her a week to put out a mediocre album like Gaga’s Chromatica and make a duet with Ariana Grande that sounds like a rough demo. But she wants to do what she feels inspired to do and it’s not mainstream. The only way for a woman her age to find success these days is to make a “classy” comeback after a long hiatus or bank oh her old catalogue. Madonna isn’t interested in either
    1 point
  44. And it’s true. He did take a lot from black musicians and in that context it is an issue because black musicians were not properly rewarded for their success. But saying that Madonna ripped off Whitney’s Heartbreak Hotel with Heartbreak City, when the two songs have absolutely nothing in common is ridiculous. I’m not sure what your age is and if you even existed in the 80s and 90s but Madonna did a lot to bring visibility of black culture and issues into the white racist mainstream. In a time when major white artists were not doing that and it was frowned upon. Some young woke people love to call her an imperialist and a slave owner for Vogue. But anyone who was actually in the ballroom community at the time will tell you a different story. They all loved her for bringing their art into the mainstream and being transparent where the inspiration came from. She worked with ballroom performers (and made them rich in the process) and put the spotlight on them. She’s never been conceited about it and never claimed it as her own. Same with Bedtime Stories. At the time she was emerged in a multicultural group of people (Tupac, Melodie McDaniels, Carlos Léon, Spike Lee, Rosie Perez, Denis Rodman etc) and of course that inspired her. And once again she used this opportunity to shine a spotlight on black culture… Its so infuriating when people inform themselves selectively and not look at the whole picture!
